Track Day Noise Limits: PSE

Mike Butler

With the track day season kicking off and my PSE being installed next week I'm thinking about noise limits. From other posts it seems that even with the PSE switched off, the static measurement is still around 105db which is too loud for many days (eg Goodwood). Goodwood is one of the tracks I'd like to attend this year so I have a number of questions:

1. Has anyone with a C4S (or other) and PSE been turned away from Goodwood, Bedford, Combe?
2. Does anyone own 'Track day slicencers' for their PSE? If so, where did they get them from?

I'm keen to get out there but also keen not to waste hundreds of pounds booking an event that I can't attend....

Cheers,

Mike

Just out of interest I measured the noise levels on my pre PSE C4S and these are the results:

Idle: 67.2db
2000 RPM: 78.3db
3000 RPM: 83.3db
4000 RPM: 87.4db
5000 RPM: 93.4db

I'll post the PSE levels as well after it's fitted on Wednesday...

Mike,

I had a 996 C4S with the power upgrade and PSE.

At 4,500 rpm at goodwood it measured 106db but only 99db with the quiet button in.

So it was OK for both Goodwood and Castle Combe.

But make sure the retrofit PSE does have the quiet switch, some I've seen do not.

PS call me re the handover of the retention cert!

I didn't even get on the circuit at CC, failed the noise test. Hit nearly 108dB. So a C4S, Fabspeed CAI, BMC F1 filter and PSE is actually a right noisy beast!

Picked up my car yesterday morning and wow... I'm even more of a grinning idiot now! The PSE transforms the car into the car it should have been. I haven't done any sound tests but the switched off PSE sounds very similar to my pre-PSE exhaust. Will report back when I've measured it.

......The PSE transforms the car into the car it should have been.

It's remarkable how much the PSE elevates the character and stature of the 996, reminding you that this really is a 'supercar'.
