Track Day Tutoring

The last two times I put foot to floor to see how fast my car would go / how good I was at driving - I wrote the cars off.... [:(] (The Toyota Hilux kept going for months - long story)

So now I've got LIL I fancy a track day but would like to have some tutoring. I thought about giving Jeremy C a bell for a session with Stig but unfortunately I really can't claim to be a "star".

Suggestions please - two considerations - I'm southern based, Mrs D grudges every penny spent on LIL!

www.carlimits.com is good value for money & Andy Walsh will teach you how to keep your car in one piece if you overstep the mark.

I've done two sessions with him & feel much more confident about finding the limits of my car on track. Honestly can't reccomend him highly enough for a novice.

Give Ian Sheppard a shout - his website is www.performance-driver-training.com. I've been out on track with him on a couple of occasions and he's very patient and knows his stuff. My driving has definitely improved after those sessions!

He's based in Basingstoke so not a million miles away from you either.

book a full trackday with Goldtrack or Circuit-Days -- have a couple of 30 minute instruction sessions and you will be well on your way to a good day.

don't wait book now!

I did the Car Limits day too and can highly recommend it. Then, as advised, I did some training on circuit at a few track days and I now also feel far more confident.

I'm not a qualified instructor, but have done a lot track days and of more use racing in years gone by. I'm based in Cambs and would be happy to come along to nearby tracks (Rockingham, Bedford autodrome,Snetterton, Brands etc) to provide some advice or instructions for nothing more than expenses

Chris does eat a lot though [;)] - apart from that he's very quick & tidy as a driver, and pretty handy in the passenger / instructor seat. [:D][:D]

+1 for Andy Walsh also - you will learn much more than you expect you would by just going round one corner for a morning [:D]

On most trackdays you can sign up for a brief session of tuition for a few extra quid.

It used to be the case with Tracksport that it was free on a first come basis I believe (but I didn't at the time when I did one hence I missed out). Is it still like that?

Trackaction-online always have tutors at there trackdays and I think I am right in saying the tutors are free. So book a track day and try and not write another car off[:)]

Tom / Guys

Thanks again - I need to get the rear suspension fixed first - and then I'll have a crack at improving my ability [:)]

can rate the guys at brands do a track day there and I think they do tuition for about £25, teach you the basics of the line etc.

Tuition at track days can be very variable and the odd 20 min with an "instructor" at a track day can only really show the lines. That's OK if that's all you want but if you want to hone technique and gain confidence in a variety of conditions then it is far better to have an instructor for a day, or a series of days, so that you can build a consistent approach and the instructor can assess your individual needs and progress. Be wary, though, there are hundereds of perople that call themselves "instructors" but there is a big difference between being a true instructor and just being a racing driver who sits in with people when they go round a track! Not all racing drivers can instruct!

You could try a Don Palmer/ Mark Hales Master Class which is, I think, 2 days at Anglesey circuit in cars provided by them or I recommend Simon Mason - http://www.simonmason.com/. Simon is a professional driver coach and takes his coaching duties very seriously. Simon will share a day between drivers in order to limit individual costs.

I would recommend and endorse Simon - known him for many years when we raced Renault 5GT Turbo's together - you wouldn't go wrong spending some time with him
