I am doing my first track day [&:]at Donington on Sunday and wondered what sort of pressure I should look at using. They are normally 29psi front and 36psi rear.

Thanks

It depends to large extent on weather conditions, your driving style and a number of other factors, but I would aim for 30 psi all round when the tyres are hot.

When I say hot, I mean track hot, not just driven to the track hot. When you get there (assuming that you've driven a decent distance), I'd probably set the pressures to about 28psi in the front and 26psi rear. Then go out for the first set of sighting laps and maybe one or two quick (buy not on the edge) laps. Come back in and as soon as you stop, adjust the pressures until you get 30 psi all round.

If it's wet, you'll want a bit less pressure in the tyres. Probably 28 psi front and 26 or 27 rear. You really need to jusge it though. Try knocking a pound ot two out of the rear if it feels loose at the back, and put it back if it makes it feel worse. Only adjust the pressures in the front OR rear each time though. You only want to have one variable at a time.

Remember that Donny can be treacherous in the wet. You get the aviation fuel dropped from planes coming in to land at the airport next door, so some parts of the track are like ice when it's wet, especially if it's been dry for a while.

Another tip (if this is your first track day). Don't forget. When you come into the paddock after a session on the track, leave your hand brake OFF. If you put it on, it stops the disks fromm cooling evenly, and can lead to warped disks.

Oh, and the most important piece of advice:

Enjoy yourself [:D]
