Track day tyre wear

I'm booked on my first track day this weekend and have bought a spare set of wheels and tyres to use.

The problem is I also bought and paid for spacers on 3rd May from someone on the for sale section here but they still haven't arrived so I was wondering how much damage I might expect to do to my road tyres (Toyo Proxes with a couple of thousand miles on them) if the worst happens and the spacers don't arrive?

The main problem you'll have with road tyres (especially Toyos) is that they don't like the heat that track work generates. Try and limit your sessions to 15 mins, not a problem as Knockhill is quite a short track so you'll get over a dozen laps in in that time.

Don't worry about bits of rubber that the tyres pickup, that'll come off when you drive home. Just ensure that you drop your tyre pressure back to normal throughout the day as they'll increase on track and wear the tyre more if you don't adjust them - you may need to reinflate your tyres at the end of the day as a result.

I've got a set of 17" rear AD08Rs in the For Sale section that would be ideal for road and track [:D]

If you drive like a granny then you won't notice any wear.

I think I did about 3 or 4 track days and 15k miles on my 911 tyres. The 944 tyres haven't been on long enough to know, but they have done 3 days and 10k miles.

I wouldn't expect to serious damage on one day.

Eldavo is right temperature is the problem, I would do one quick lap followed by a slower one.

When I bought my 944 it had Eagle NCT's on it I thought they would be fine for a race or two but they melted in 5 laps!

That's why my tyres are all fine then:

I do one slow lap followed by a day of slow laps :)

Well, I stuck with the Toyos and they were fine, done about 8-10 laps at a time and they were great, the track was soaked every hour with the heavy rain passing through but managed several dry spells over the whole day.

I was nervous about taking a 25 year old car out on my first track day but it felt like the car was enjoying it as much as me and it just kept going all day so I'll definitely be booking up for another one!

Only had one problem, a really strong smell of fuel, I've had it once before when I filled the tank full so will need to find out what's causing that but it calmed down once I'd used a quarter tank.

Here's some pics/video from the day:
