Track Day Tyres

Just got some 15" Fuchs replica wheels 7 & 8" & now I need some track day tyres, that I can use year round including driving to & from the circuits.
Had Dunlop SP Race previously & found these pretty good, but I'm after informed opinion on the alternatives.

Has anyone tried the new Toyo R888's yet?

I have some information for you from the register...several CS owners have this combination (15" tyres) and track the car. Also, Richard Bernau is good to tap for this kind of stuff

Andy not sure if they make them in 15" but have been using some 'new' Dunlops, Track day tyres ,great in wet ,fine in dry and seem to last ...............chevron dry pattern but with bricks at the side to let the water out ...........................

My experience with 15s is limited to the old PZeroCs. I still have a set of part worns that I can't give away! I got mine at very good prices and there may still be some around.

I like the Dunlop DO1Js I am currently using. They have the stiffest sidewall of any tyre I have experienced and give great turn-in. Not sure of the sizes for 15s though. They are also a little less good in the rain.

You can certainly get Michelin Cups for 15s and experience on a lightweight 2.7RS has been quite encouraging - wet and dry. They need more pressure in the wet to open the grooves up.

I think the Toyos may be worth a try if the price is right. They have a good track record for R-compound tyres. The RA1 was a very good tyre by all accounts, so the new 888s may be the business. There is also a new Avon track day tyre that looks very like the 888 in tread pattern which may also be worth trying.

Please let us know what your end with, your likes/dislikes.

Just, BTW, I don't know what your replica wheels are like, but I guess you know that the replicas are not as strong as Fuchs and are prone to cracking. I had 3 piece Compomotive fuchs replicas and one cracked and the rim sections came apart when some connecting bolts sheared causing instant tyre deflation and a harmless spin. Now quite what happened first in that little sequence and what started it all is a mystery, but I would not use them again on track. YMMV, but it is worth getting some crack testing dye and carefully checking the wheels.

I am also curious why you are choosing to run 15s not 16s? I understand the gearing advantage but in my experience it is not worth anywhere near as much as the ability to run 225/245s on 16s. The extra grip, particularly under braking is significant. Is there something else I have missed?

Thanks for the response. I have emailed you re the PZeroC's.

At the moment the Toyo R888's are not available for for 15 x 8, they are doing a 15 x 7.

The replicas are 1 piece & look sound, but thanks for the tip about testing for cracks.

I went for 15's following advice from the CS Register guys & Francis Tuthill + the fact they were a good price.

So far I've only had the CS on track with my old Boxster wheels & the tyres on those were probably too wide.
