Track Days

Does anyone have experience of using a standard 924 at a trackday?

I live in Chichester, very close to Goodwood where I spent several hours on Saturday watching some very impressive and expensive machinery being driven round the circuit during a PCGB track event. As far as I could tell the slowest Porsche there was a 944S2!

I would love to have a go but do not wish to embarass myself, or perhaps more important, do not wish to get in the way.

Any comments?

I was there on Saturday (Black 944 Turbo). There were some fast cars there but that shouldn' t put you off, everyone has to start somewhere.

Quite often organisers will split the groups by ability so the likelyhood of holding people up wouldn' t be a problem. The PCGB organisers didn' t do this on Saturday, at least not that I am aware of, but as there were only 5 cars allowed on the track " traffic" was not a problem.

In most cases it' s the driver that makes the difference not the car.

So have a go!

Jeffrey,

Totally agree with Robbie.

I was there too and with only 5 cars at Goodwood there tons of space and most PCGG drivers fast and slow are very gentlemanly.

Regards.

On a five car day at Goodwood, there are times you wonder what everybody else knows when you can' t see another single car!!

Go for it!!

And then watch what the 924' s do in the racing series!!

Jeffrey,

The only way you would embarass yourself is if you leave your enthusiasm at HOME.

Be warned because the GT3, 964, 964RS, 993 owners all take the P out of each other and it' s all done in the best possible taste. Those that take themselves too seriously soon get targeted!

Track days are great funa AND a great opportunity to catch up with other Porsche nuts.

Come along to a day and cadge a ride. Bring a bone dome with you if poss but they are normally available for hire if you don' t have one. Half decent lid doesn' t need to cost a fortune circa £60.00 - £100.00 (up to £500.00 if you have more money than sense).

The only regret, which is par for the course (excuse the pun), will be that you didn' t book one sooner. We all had the same concerns but if you didn' t give a damn we would prefer not to have you on the track with us! We all have to drive home in our cars. We all need to be reminded that we are there to enjoy ourselves and there are no prizes for being fastest, blowing up or crashing.

Have a look at http://www.titanic.co.uk/cgi-bin/trackdaydiary.py and go to the track day diary. We add our names to track days the we are attending (Not just PCGB organised days). Let us know you are coming along and we will do our best to encourage you.
Bring some beer and a good looking woman and you will be friends for life!
