TRACK ROD ENDS

It never rains but it pours!!!!! After changing my alternator...well chuffed, i was quite shocked to find out that the MOT picked up that the track rod ends needed replacing. Mind you, they then went on to say that with the increase in speed bumps and poor road surfaces many cars are increasingly needing replacement track rod ends.
Apparently i was told if i can replace an alternator in a 996 the track rod ends should be a doddle.
Any chance of requesting an instruction sheet (please Richard).
Whilst i'm also working on the front end, do you also have instructions on how to replace the front shock absorbers and is this easy enough to do? What can go wrong etc? Car has done 90,000 miles plus so may be time to look into,
Many thanks,
David

Track rod ends are relatively easy, provided you have a really good ball joint splitter. Loosen the nut on the track rod, "just" split the ball joint, and unwind it from the track rod. You will need to get the tracking adjusted afterwards.

I'll email you the strut instructions, which are a bit more complex.

Ive been advised that if replacing one side you are best advised to do both sides!!
Blimey, where was that for a tenner?
Also advised to have tracking done after

Christchurch tyres, they spent 3 hours doing my geo , and never charged me for wheel balancing all 4 wheels either. 110 quid it costs, great job including fitting that track rod end. Also the geo was done on a hunter machine (100,000 quid ) so it is now perfect. No wobble at very high speeds.

Good news...as so often with amateurs....i didnt have a splitter for the track rod ends. Got really lucky though, both sides came off with a very slight blow of the hammer. Soon as the replacement ones arrive it can go back in for its MOT.
many thanks to all again for any advice

Cant believe im still waiting on parts....bank holiday hasnt helped.
Can anyone tell me if the track rod end retaining nuts are suppose to be nyloc or not and if they have to be ordered from opc or not,
thanks
