enthusiasts...

i have a spare set of 17in mags now and plan to use them for trackdays - which tyres do those of you who run similar recommend ? toyo 888 or michelin ps cups or rosso's , can u get these in the standard 205/50 and 255/40 sizes ?

tnks in advance.

According to Michelin, there's only 2 places in the UK who can get hold of the full range of the Michelins. One is in Stoke-on-Trent and the other is in Essex. I think I've got the addresses at home so unless someone beats me to it, I'll post them up tonight.

Elite in Horsham stock the Toyos.

The stockist for the MPSCs in the South East is Red Star Tyre & Exhaust Centres. Braintree, Essex. CM7 2RH. Tel. 01376 347452 and the contact is Robert Coates or Dave Rodda.

In Stoke, it is Protyre Motorsport. Unit 1, Elswick Road, Fenton Industrial Estate, Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent. ST4 2SB. Tel 01782 411001 and the contact is Shaun Chetwyn

These details came from a leaflet Michelin were handing out at Ragley

the toyos are good for the money. know a few people who have swapped out of mpcs to toyos and are very happy - less of a handful on the road in the wet & near enough the same grip on track.
you'll get 3-4 days out of them on track, with potentially another 2 if you can trailer the car to & from the event or carry them as spares.
i got them from direct tyres who came & fitted them for a good price. are slightly cheaper at camskill if you can get them fitted yourself.

IMO the MPSCs are the best you can do in the dry; better than the 888s in all out grip. I think this is the received wisdom and not just me. Toyos win on price as the Cups are really a silly price. Protyre attend a variety of track dats and races and can sort you out there, alternatively they pop them in the post for little more than normal price.

Personally I wouldn't drive on Cups in the winter. Not knowing when it's going to pour means a gamble every time you go out. I've driven across the conteinent in the cold / wet with used Cups. It's a buttock clinching experience. Get two sets of wheels and use the cups in summer / at track days with something else for winter.

SORRY - just re-read; disregard last sentence as I see you're already there! Get Cups if not too worried about a few hundred quid a year, otherwise Toyos.

just going back to your original list , I'd add Dunlops D02G Direzza? that replaced the D01Js . Dunlop Motorsport are the distributors , price per tyre in range 130-170 dependent on size

chaps,

thanks for all yr advice and opinion. i have decided to give the mpsc's a go. i won't be using them very often, just for trackdays so i might as well go for the full fat option. perhaps we'll try the Toyo's when the mpsc expire. depending on temperature/rain will aim to break them in at brands on the 8/dec, which will be my first outing on the track in the '64rs.

Oliver.

That's not a bad price (less than I was expecting you to say) I'll have to add a set to my winter shopping list.

sorry to bring this up yet again....anyone have recent prices for the toyo's can't make up my mind between them and the dunlops. price will probably do it.

Laurence, I would try Steve at Simply Tyres, http://www.simplytyres.co.uk/

This time last year he had some good pre track season deals,,I bought then and had them fitted in the summer when I needed them.

The Toyos seem good, rather than amazing, I too am a fan of the Dunlops, as they seem to be more consistent and don't go off after a number of laps where as theToyos perhaps do?
There is a new replacement Dz03 version of the Dunlop, I may well try these next. It will be interesting to see if Dunlop also play the game of cheap introductory offers to buy their way into the track day tyre market?
