Trackday noise levels

New member
I have booked on a 100db trackday at Castle Combe in a few days (Oct 26th). Will my new aquisition, a standard (I think) 993RS pass? If not what can I do to quieten it?

Static may catch u out , warm it up let the heat soke in ............but convince them ur drive by is low poss no more than 90db..........................likely to be 101/108 static, really hot 105db!!

Nick, I drove my old black one at Combe a few times, totally standard car...never had a problem. On track at Bedford tomorrow where the current RS sails through the noise tests......standard exhaust is best as far as I am concerned.

How are you getting on with the new car? When I first got my 993RS, I was pleased, but not blown away,,,,,it took a few miles and 3 months to fully appreciate the whole point of the car.

I am picking the car up tomorrow, which is a pity as I was hoping to try it out at Bedford. Castle Combe is a track that I like, and its a great cross country drive to get there too. Actually most places are a cross country drive when you live in East Sussex!

Hi Nick,
I run my RS with Sports exhaust and always squeese through at all circuits , your standard car will be fine.

Congratulations on the new purchase, I know I am a little biased but they really are the "Nuts"[:)]

Well done Nick. I have Cargraphic exhaust set up on mine and it fails static tests but drive by is always fine. You will be fine I'm sure.

Well done Nick. As a recent convert to the RS brand myself I can happily report that you will not be disappointed with your purchase [8D]

As Paul said it does take time to appreciate the whole point of an RS. I feel that I am just getting to the point where it starts to make sense (on the road anyway !) I have not had the time to take it out on track yet but I am looking forward to that day....[:)]

There is a PCGB trackday tomorrow (Saturday) at Goodwood so I will take a run down there to get a feel for the car and get it noise tested. Anyone here booked on the track?

Though the stoopid grin will probably last a lot longer!

Nick,if the noise is 100dbtrack day at combe, you may struggle to get through.Combe are very strict and there is no drive by only static.I cancelled my place as it is a 100db day,i have no chance with my 993rs,especially when up vics chuffer!!
I big piece of carpet under the rear lid, will probably get you through the 100db,if your system is stock. Then take it out.

Mine has RSR exhaust which is definately louder than stock. Went to PCGB event last year at Castle Combe. No problem with noise test.

Nick, my 993RS is totally standard and happily, always gets thru at Castle Combe. I'd be slightly careful about relying on at test at Goodwood as a benchmark for CC. As you know, circuits measure at different distances etc; in the past my 964 RS has got thru the static at G'wood only to be consisitently failed at CC.

Great to hear you're picking it up today.. have fun and look fwd to seeing it.

I didn't make it down to Goodwood yesterday, I decided that while I was in West London collecting the RS with the trailer, that I would nip over to High Wyconbe to inspect a RHD 72E shell that's for sale on Ebay. It was located in the spares department [8|] of the Lamborghini Service Centre. I will fly a kite at Castle Combe and report here.

The 993RS just passed tha Castle Combe test at 99.9 dB, but I think it was actually 100.1, but who's quibbling as they let me on track [:)]

The shiny one is Nigel Mitchell's, who came to say hello in the afternoon after the track dried out.

I have to say it's an awesome track car, but it needs a very delicate touch on the wet and greasy track that we had in the morning.
