Trackday noise limit concerns

Chaps,
I'm currently looking at a 964C2 with de-cat, cup pipe and open airbox. According to the owner it makes about 106db - clearly this is going to be a problem for trackdays. Is there an easy way to quieten things down in order to pass the noise tests ? Clearly don't want to reinstate the factory exhaust as that would rather defeat the point of the exercise. How do you all manage to get on track or are you strictly 'noisy day' only people ???

Thanks

Jamie

Hi Jamie

My RS has a completely standard exhaust and I have had no problems at any quiet days. Mel has reinstated a standrd silencer on his Cup car to get into quiet days. I think it may be as you have stated, if you want to run a loud exhaust, avoid quiet days.

I'm not aware of any "fixes" that can help.

Regards

Jamie, mines a de-cat and cup pipe with that little box before the big hole and I was OK at Donnington....was that a quiet day Feroz?

Donington was 98db drive by which is very different to a static noise test. I understand that it is the static noise tests that pose the biggest problems for 911s and the only option is to be imaginative about your rev limit at scrutineering. I think the tracks that are most sensitive to noise are Castle Coombe, Goodwood and Bedford - although the GT3 boys have regular outings at the later 2 without problems and their cars are not all quiet!!

106db sounds about right from what I understand but I think noise testing is a bit of a grey area and getting increased focus from organisers and circuits.

Yoda is correct!!

Ran race cat, Cup pipe, final silencer -107db at 3/4 metre at 75% max rpm.

Took off Cup Pipe and replaced with C2 silencer (£30!!) -now 98-102db.

No discernable loss in power, lots quieter (don't have to wear ear plugs any more.....) but no lovely popping and banging on the over run....[:(]

Jamie.
98db static is a real no no ,unless you run an electric milk float, 98db drive bye is poss. but most of us go for 105db to be safe.

I wouldn't listen to anything Richard has to say on the issue of noise. He is 115db static (just his afterburner[:D]) - even louder when the car is running.

"Most of us go for 105db to be safe" - now that's a laugh!! Richard - Looking forward to hearing the new whisper mode exhaust you are having built to get you to 105db.

Thanks for the feedback chaps. Is it viable to switch between standard back box and cup pipe for trackdays or is it more hassle than it's worth to keep changing it over (particualrly considering I have no garage and a fairly limited selection of tools) ? I haven't really had a very close look at the exhaust plumbing yet so forgive me if that's a dumb question !

jamie
i've got smaller cat and g-pipe type arrangement - and my car is massively noisy

i've not had any probs on 105db (static) days - and theres enough of them in the trackdays calender to not make it an issue unless you're going to be out every weekend...
