Trackday - Silverstone 30th March

It is that time of year, albeit a little later than we usually appear. Yes, myself and Dave are back on track in the 968's at Silverstone on the 30th March. It is somewhat unsocialable....it is on a Tuesday!

It was to be the shake down for the e30 race cars prior to our first race a week and a half later on the same circuit. Unfortunately, due to a hugely over subscribed grid (which is excellent for the championship) neither of us are racing...so the impetus for finishing the cars in time deteriorated. We were not busting a gut to have our cars 90% finished only to be a reserve in a 'sister' series. Nevertheless, 'little red riding Paul' (named thus due to his propensity to buy everything in red and his less than generous height (especially compared to Dave and I)) will have his car ready and will be there to shake down ready for his race (he is near the top of the reserve for the BMW race).

The point - Dave and i will be in the 68's - not how we wanted to start the season, but i am really looking forward to the day, and the additional 150bhp over the BM will be a pleasure. Might be the only trackday in the '68 this year for us (lots int he BM's - we have to learn to drive them).

If anyone is passing by, or not working please drop in and say hello - you might even get a passenger ride.

JP

p.s. Dave has a white BM with a blue theme planned, and mine, ALL black....with a gold wheels and graphic scheme planned....photos in a month or so....

A shame about the E30's chaps but at least you'll get a chance to stretch the 968's legs.

I can't make it to Silverstone, pity as I'd have liked to have taken some snaps, have fun guys [:)]

Hi guys Pity about the bm's but I maybe able to get down later on for a bit, with cameras and maybe helmet!
Mike

Mike, I hope you can order some fine dry weather....Itl be good to meet again...
We might be a little track rusty as the last one we did was Donny when you were there....[:D]

The BM,s will be ready , when there ready....[;)][;)][8|][8|] Its suprising just how much you have to do to get a car race ready...And the length of time it takes....

I'm working out how to have an "early" finish!

Hope I can make it - was at Donington for the Rally on Sunday with about 40ish Porsches (including Dave H) -circuit is looking very sorry [&o][&o][&o]

Cheers

Mike

Ok chaps, just letting you know this is looming .
Its this coming Tuesday....30th March...

can't help myself - will show my face! might even be towing something on the off chance of getting on..............

Hi Paul
Saw you on the M1 near Nottingham early one morning last week, I was in the van so not too easily recognised!
Hope you had a good day and maybe see you Tuesday.
Mike

Hi - Mike

Was on my way up to see the 'chip guru' Wayne Schofield. Useful exercise as he sorted a power dip around 5250 and re-programmed the variocam to optimise the torque at high revs. Car is as good as it is going to get now -- so lost all my excuses!

Was that "80% chance of light rain"!!!!
Didn't mention the freezing gale propelling it!
Enjoyed the day even so - special thanks to Jason 3 times out and back.
Will take a few day to do the pics etc hopefully over the weekend, although may do a bit of the vid on youtube before.
Hope you all had a good trip home
Cheers
Mike

Mike - hi

Good as ever to meet up with friends. We all survived the day, never had so many red flags in an open pit lane day though. Thankfully I did not see any damage, mainly gentle offs into new mud and mechanical gremlins.

As mentioned it was windy, wet or raining all day, a dry line did appear on part of the circuit before lunch but it promptly disappeared a few minutes later.

Small Paul out in his E30 racecar, the first of the 'dynamic trio' to complete their cars -- he is racing at Silverstone on 17th April - big crowd of support required.

Bigdave and Frogisland out in their road going 968's -- all the day really did was define the relative performance of our tyres in wet conditons! Softened the GAZ settings on my car which helped but later I tried my car with the front arb disconnected (ie remove the drop link on one side only). This was really quite good -- Kevin at EMC always says this and as usual he is right!!

Next time out for me is the races at Brands Indy on 10th April.

Mike - good work there, no wonder you were cold you must of been in that Grandstand for hours!

Paul

It was pretty wet and chilly, but a few laps with Jason, soon warmed me up!
I've done the DVD/pics but lost your address! Could you pm me please?
Cheers
Mike

Had a '..thought it was you..' moment as I passed the circuit in the week, as I looked over the fence I saw what I thought was the unmistakable Orange flash! Sadly I was on my way back to work and was already short on time otherwise I would have popped in to say hello. Give me a shout if you're up at Silverstone again, as the office is next door.

Hoping to get down to Brands next weekend. If I don't make it best of luck!

Nice bit of video footage Mike, didn't imagine there would be that much going on at Copse! Hope you've thawed out!

[Paul, thanks for the tip for where to get the motor serviced the boys at Promax were sound]
