Tracked 993

Interested in forum views of the desirability, or not to be precise, of cars that have been tracked. Does it matter if a car has had a few track days or is this a particularly negative aspect (I.e. significant cost price). Many ads claim boldly no track days but given most of these cars have had 5,6,7+ owners I cannot see how the existing owner would know anyway to quote this. So, should I avoid such a car or not worry about this and simply focus on all the usual condition, history stuff and be happy as long as all else checks out an ppi is solid?

If everything checks out on a ppi and the history is there, I'd say go for it. Having seen some Porsches on the road and the way they are driven, they might as well have been tracked!

Use on a trackday does in all honesty induce more wear and tear, but my thought is this would affect consumables more than 'permanent' fixtures. It has often been said that cars that get little use suffer more than those that are used and an important point is that anyone tracking would probably be of a mind to maintain the car to an exceedingly high standard.

I do track my car and so do many porsche owners here and elsewhere, does it devalue it ?
certainly not... and I would think my is better for it..... after all these cars are meant to be driven... and I have ever red-lined the engine it on a track day or autobahn

personally I get the 12k miles service done every 6000 miles and the 24k service every 12000 miles
it's looked after very well, everything is in tip top condition and only quality parts and liquids used..... and always make sure the engine warms up properly... not forgetting it has all the modern toys, xenon, sat nav, etc etc

problems with my car over the last year,
1. passenger seat doesn't fold so easily
2. power to the front speakers is very weak

otherwise when I was looking a while back, there were enough neglected 993's out there that may have been service every 15-20k miles where the owners fired then up and went off on full pelt before the engine had warmed up propertly...... and as discussed previously cars doing less then 5k a year over a 10 year life can have their own problems.....

apart from the odd sticker, my car looks like any other 993 and I would like to think it drives as well as any other 993 out there...

if only the stereo was a bit better !

You need a GT3 - They have fantastic sound systems - 3.6l ones[;)]

They would sound even better without all that water muffling the noise [:)]

I intend to take my car onto the track, as it is the best place to enjoy it nowadays.

I think if a car has had the occasional track day then there should be no issues. It shows the owner is pretty enthusiastic about cars, and a 993 should be able to handle it easily - maybe extra checks would be required for brake disk/pad thickness, tyre condition and evidence of any "off track" activity, but these should be covered by a PPI anyway.

If the car has done a lot of track days and not been maintained accordingly, then maybe this will show in the condition of the car, and then affect the value, but it all comes down to condition in the end.

my 2p -[:)]

I'd suggest just buy on condition versus price and not worry about something I can't check up on.

Most guys who track their cars actually look after them better than those who do not. Until you put a Porsche on the track, you do not realise what it can actaully do[:D]

Also when a car is used on rack regularly it will expose any faults in the car which I am sure the owner would fix really quickly, so at the minimum you should get decent suspension alignment, shocks and bushes etc.
