Tracker and invalidating the warranty HELP!!

Hi all,
I need to pick the collective brain.
I am due to take delivery of a brand new 981 this weekend.
The issue that has crept up at the last minute is that my current Insurer has informed me that for this car I require a Tracker.
Not something my previous 2 Boxsters have required. I can only assume as this one is £52K that has tipped the balance.

The problem is that when I spoke to my OPC about getting a Porsche unit fitted they want to charge £1,200 which is just astranomical!!
When looking at TRACKER they start at £360 but I have found them as low as £250 for a basic system.

My problem is that my OPC tell me that if I have a non Porsche fitted unit and I quote:

"the Porsche Statement is that it will invalidate the warranty"

Can this be correct ?

Any help would be great

Cheers

Not perhaps the reply you wanted but I'd try other insurance companies.

This quote from DirectLine/Privilege? They own Tracker.

The MTrack sounds a better alternative than the Unit installed by Porsche which on my car was a Cobra.

Just to put me straight here! I thought that the Porsche Cobra tracker was a non deletable standard option, is that not the case?

The non-delete option is the wiring only. It does not include the tracker equipment or the subscription, both of which are extra.

I should also point out that the equipment cannot be transferred to a new car whereas you can with the mtrack solution.

Sorry to side-track,
spoke to Porsche about fitting bumper air intake grills to my wife's Boxster S and was told would invalidate warranty??
Madness??

It's not the only example of 'warranty madness'; For this example .... Remove the grills prior to warranty inspection etc then refit them afterwards.

Not the most convenient process but it works.

Just been through the online configurator and as far as I can see, the Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) isn't mentioned. I wonder if this has changed? Or was it only ever listed on the 991 configurator?

Can't remember if it's listed separately on the 981. However, you cannot fit the Porsche Tracker without the non-optional 'VTS Prep'.

It would appear by the original thread poster that his car is coming with the prep.

Edit: From the 981 brochure:

"Preparation Vehicle Tracking System (PVTS).

This standard preparation enables future installation of the Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (PVTS) available from Porsche Tequipment. The system makes it possible to locate a stolen vehicle across most of the countries of Europe. The preparation package includes a special wiring loom and a tilt sensor for the alarm system."

Hi guys regardless of options or not, on Nicks advice I have spoken to Richard and MTrack and he was very helpful.
So for me it's a no brainer. I have looked around for better insurance quotes but all are coming way above the £620 a year I have for very good fully Comp cover.
So it's Mtrack for me at £550 (this -£49 discount as a Porsche owner [:D] ) all in for the unit with Premier package cover and 3 yrs monitoring

The other great thing is that when I next change car in 2 years I just move the unit so don't have to fork out for another tracker.

All points to how very stupid Porsche are on this.
If they were charging in the £300-400 area they would see a good number of owners take up the option and would have some nice on-going revenue from subscriptions.
Instead they kill the job dead by wanting to charge £1200[] as up until now they had us by the short & curly's with the Warranty line.
All in all, just greed.[:'(]
I think as more Trackers like MTrack come on-stream they will have to think again

Anyway Thanks again Nick great advice

If you get any problems with either the sensitivity of the movement detector or the listening period of the remote control these and many other features can be adjusted by the mtrack guys.

Richard will explain all during the unit set-up.
