I need to have a tracker fitted to my RS in order for it to be insured by the current insurance company.
The car has no alarm as such, but it has the Porsche DriveBlock immobiliser which I beleive is built into the ECU. As far as I'm concerned I don't see how you can have a better immobiliser than that! Alarms are pretty useless other than annoying neighbours anyway.
Does anybody know how they wire up the Tracker? Do they need to disturb the car's own wiring loom?
I really don't fancy having some mobile auto electrician messing around with the wiring loom of the car, I'd rather change the insurance company if they had to.
 
Tracker no problem, simple fit, I had to fit Porsche alarm/immobiliser as well as drive block system, going in this week to be fixed, nowt but trouble!!, cant disconnect the driveblock so they work back to back and as such prove unreliable, in my case any way
 
Ur right Bloc system most effective thing however listrened to this Tracker story froim insurers far too often and have always had to fit ....................as Paul says not connected to alarm , has its own battery even , until recently i always had it done by a reliable specialist, fitted to a 72 car had probs technical guys from Tracker really helpful , came out and did it well ...................pity abt their admin , perhaps thats improved ,they were trying ......very!
 
If they haven't specified the "Tracker" make, there are other tracking systems. Look at Trackstar and Smartrack to name two.

I wouldn't get too stressed about getting it fitted. These devices are fitted by the 1000's on a wide range of vehicles including Porsches.

While I share your view about changing insurance company, you first need to find one that doesn't require Tracker. Even then, I changed insurance because of this and the new company then specified it the following year!

Final thought is whether it really is worth fitting Tracker. There are 2 arguements. First is that if your car is stolen, do you want it back? If it has been ragged to within an inch of its life............ However, many up market cars are lifted straight onto a transporter and then broken into at leasure. These cars are often shipped abroad. Tracker is your only chance.
 
I am with Aon and they say you need a Thatcham cat 1 alarm/immobiliser and also Tracker. I went for Cobra alarm/immobiliser and Tracker Horizon all fitted by a local alarm specialist. No problems at all. (The battery flattens quickly, but I'm not sure I can blame that on the new security kit or not). Obviously I have the Porsche Driveblock system as well.
And I know the Tracker works because having had my car trailored to Silverstone the other week, Tracker phoned me 3 times to tell me that my car was making steady progress down the motorway........
 
Go for one of the alternative makes. Tracker are administratively useless (see other threads) and will waste your time. They are the dominant player and can now sit back and rake in the money without providing customer service or innovation.

As you can tell I'm not happy with them.
 
hey Mick, have you felt the weight of those trackers, must be at least 10kg, the RS will be heavier than the C2.
 
Spoke to the tech guy from one of the tracker company. Aparrently the 911 has the fuel pump in the boot where they can get the feed from, as well as the power feed, so everything can stay in the boot. Should be an easy install,is that right?
