Tracker / ramps on Car Ferry

Taking the car on the Plymouth-Santander ferry for a road trip to Northern Spain and wondered what the procedure is for dealing with the Tracker whilst on board ? Presume would need to disable it somehow and contact Vodafone.

Are there any issues with the ramps or gangways? the ship is the Brittany Ferries Pont Aven. The car is a 992 C2S on standard (not lowered sports) suspension.

Thanks

Before you get on the ferry:

Open the My Porsche App
> Details
> Functions...
>Vehicle tracking systems
>Transport Mode... Turn it ON and set an end time/date.

When on the ferry and locking your car,
>Double Click the Locking Button on the Key Fob.
This will disable the interior alarm and tilt sensor.

If you have Entry & Drive I think the procedure is to hold the key against the touch sensor on the door handle, but worth a read of the manual.

You shouldn't have any issues with ramps. Follow the instructions from the loading team, they do this stuff all day long and are used to dealing with lowish ground clearance cars.

When I went to the IoM with the Porsche shop tour in May, all the Porsche cars in front of me went up the difficult ramps at the ship/dock interface in a diagonal fashion rather than straight to minimise issues. This is standard practise and the loading crew will probably suggest you do that.

The ramps on the Brittany Ferry Pont Aven from Plymouth were fine as the car was loaded on the C deck which is basically at road level so just a few inches high.
I think that they must select the cars from the bookings as I was in the same row as two astons.
Hopefully will be the same on the return journey.

Only hiccup was with the tracker and My Porsche app, as advised in the earlier post in this thread I sat in the loading queue and started to enable the transport mode only to realise that the app only allows a maximum of 10 hours. Not a lot of use for a 23 hour crossing! There followed a nervous 15 minute hold to get through to Vodaphone who did this remotely. I did suggest that it would be helpful to warn users about this as there is no mention of this on the help page on the app.

Quick update, on return journey from Santander to Plymouth in spite of asking to be put onto a flat deck(obviously our Spanish is not up to scratch !) we ended up getting herded onto one of the upper car decks via ramp.
Fortunately I can report that the ramps were fine and not at all severe entering and exiting (Ship was Brittany ferries Pont Aven).

That’s helpful to know, thank you. We used to take our Saab Aero on that sailing. I used to wince coming home onto that ramp, maybe due to the increased payload clinking away….!

That said looking out at the rain here I’m not sure why you came home. I know where I’d rather be this morning, and it’s not the wet UK.

Thanks, Nigel

A few years ago I forgot to inform the tracker company (Vodafone) that I was traveling from Hull to Rotterdam. When I exited the ferry in Holland I had quite a few missed call - all from Vodafone. They call again a few minutes later and I explained what had happened and all was well, and I the informed them of the date and time of the return journey.

When I can get the My Porsche App working it will be a bonus. I need a trip to my PC for a Masterclass!

When I tried using the app on the same ferry route it would not allow me to turn on the transport mode for long enough...I always end up calling
