Tracker

Hi All,

I'm writting this because of what I can only call sharp practices being operated by Tracker network (UK).

I'm selling my beloved boxster due to a 2 year contract abroad and have just been told by tracker customer services that due to the fact I purchased a years subscription with them they will not be refunding the remainder of my subscription to me when I sell the car even though it expires in August because its not their policy! The next owner cant take on the subscription either! He/She has to buy a new one!

The tracker had to be fitted because the insurance company requested it, at the time I was happy enough but when the fitter came round things started to cause concern, not only did tracker charge £120 to fit the device, which only took 5 minutes, but the fitter told me he puts them all in the same place and even showed me the location!!

I've been reading of incidents where the tracker has been removed from the car by theives and left in place of the stolen vehicle, I'm not surprised.

Tracker? Better of with a secret cut off switch for your fuel pump.

Have you told your stupid insurance company the above facts of life?

I am with the Royal and even though I had £18K's worth of Jeep stolen last May they never mentioned the need to fit a Tracker on the replacement vehicle or my other existing cars, thankfully ... Good luck with the move and the sale [;)]

I'm not surprised by the response from Tracker[]
I am increasingly concerned about how easy it might be for a pro car thief to quickly disable the tracker; it's raised enough doubts in my mind as to reconsider the annual sub.
There seems to have been more cases recently where stolen cars have had the tracker disabled.
I'd be interested in other views as whether or not on balance the tracker is beneficial (other than to satisfy insurance cover).
Tracker seem to have been silent on the issue; I presume they are regularly refining/developing/improving the effectivenress of their product [8|]
It may be that the pros have caught up with the tracker and it needs improving

I am just having one fitted because of the insurance company requirement, but have no faith in them either.

I dont see that not refunding part of the annual subscription (cost £109) amounts to sharp practise. It is sold as non refundable, non transferrable.

I intentionally sought an insurance company that did not insist on Tracker being installed. I got my insurance from a broker, Performance Marque, and am very happy with it. Porsches will only be stolen by professional thieves. Most of these are well-versed in removing the tracker device.

My insurance was also the cheapest quote with or without a Tracker. I would rather spend the money saved on improving my own personal security as this is the weakest link in Porsche car thefts.

Can you enlighten us any further without going into details that you would rather keep to yourself?

Thanks

I agree - Trackers to me are a waste of time/money. I found cheaper quotes from some non-tracker demanding comanies than I did from those who do demand it. Even if the quotes were higher, were they higher than the cost of the premium difference?

Anyway, not sure I'd want the car back if it was nicked...probably better with an insurance payout that a half-screwed car with a stolen/recovery on it's record.

GreigM: Agree with you. If someone nicked my car then I would want a new one. If you have a Tracker then there's a high probability you'll get the wrecked one back!

Ivor: Are you asking about the measures i've taken to improve my personal security?

Regards,

Taz

My Boxster had tracker on it when I bought it but my insurance company didn't insist on it anyway but the same company wouldn't insure my WRX for theft until I had it fitted. Boxster insurance group 20, WRX 17.?! How they work these things out defies logic.

I went to get a Tracker fitted on my car as the dealer didn't tell me it had one when I bought it. The fitter called me and told me I already had one,he knew that because, as Matt already mentioned, they all fit them in the same place.

Useless.

But if the insurance companies insist on it, and I have no choice, then there we go.
I think insurance companies should spend less time asking questions like 'Where do you keep your keys in your house...do you leave them in a drawer?' and start asking Tracker to get their fitters to put them in random places like they are supposed to, otherwise they wont force people to use them anymore and Tracker will go out of business.
