Switch from Privilege - I did, for exactly that reason. I moved to Porsche Club insurance, which even though not the cheapest, was cheaper the Privilege.

I too flatly refused to have a tracker fitted to my car. I am of the view that if it wasn't fitted by the factory, I do not want some back street outfit fiddling with the wiring harness on my new car. Trackers are also of more value to the insurance comany than to you, so stand your ground. It meant that I too had to change insurers, from Direct Line to Saga (I'm an old git) and as it turned out I ended up saving money into the bargain. Do not be bullied by the insurance companies. Best of luck [;)]

Hi Folks,

I'm a newbie and would appreciate some advice.

I pick up my new Cayman S this coming Friday. Having spoken with my insurance co (Privilege) they say they will not cover the vehicle for any theft related claim if it doesn't have a Tracker fitted. POrsche want £1000 plus £200 a year for their approved VTS tracker !!!

Is there a particular insurer that normally works best for Porsches that don't require a tracker to be fitted and if not are there any problems fitting non-porsche trackers?

Grateful for any help.

Paul

Try Porsche insurance underwritten by (Norwich Union) they don't insist on tracker for cars under 60K, plus its good cover including courtesy cars when needed and should you need a repair they use Porsche dealers so you wont be arguing about sending to some crap repairer [;)]

I just insured my Cayman S. My previous insurer said they would require me to fit a tracker if there was not one fitted as standard. There wasn't and I did not want to mess about getting one fitted by someone else.... So new insurer it was then.. Ended up at Admiral, with a pretty decent quote and also no nonsense about having tracker fitted!

agree with all thats been said-my p and j has a vts fitted from new at the factory but i wouldnt risk anyone else b*gg*ing about with it!!

Totally agree. Been with Porsche's insurance for many years.

There's also the point that a third-party tracking device might invalidate a Porsche warranty and quite possibly get a new extended warranty refused.

Any third pary tracker DOES invalidate the warranty, even though OPCs fitted the Tracker branded product until the Porsche VTS system came in. Lots of insurers will cover without a trackign device - the annual saving is about £35 for a tracker so its not worth the expense, and do you really want your car back if it is stolen ?? Try A.Manning (Porsche scheme), Adrian Flux or A-Plan as some other options

Thanks folks. I got a quote from Porsche Insurance (Norwich Union) of £697 (fully comp with protected NCD) and then went to A-Plan Insurance who got me a quote from Royal & Sun Alliance on their 'high net worth' named policy for £587 [:)](Apparently this policy is specifically designed for Porsches, Bentley's, Ferrari's etc [&:])? Neither required the Tracker to be fitted and best of all Privilege agreed to a pro-rata refund as it wasn't my fault they were insisting on a Tracker! (Very good of them). I don't know how that sounds to you guys but it doesn't seem bad at all to me for a grp 19 car (Me - I'm 43yrs of age with clean license & no claims)? I'd be interested to know how that stacks up? [:)] Paul.

Very fair, I would say [:)]

Check out Performance Insurance..who advertise in Porsche Post, an example Cayman insurance of £397 . I've gone with them this year f comp, protected NCD, compulsory excess £500...no tracker! 08444 935710

swiftcover £336 pa excess £350 tracker fitted full ncb but licence a real mess[:D]

Whoever you go with, make sure they cover the full replacment cost of the car and all the factory fitted extras - some companies will only pay out market value of a std CaymanS, and who has ever seen one of those ?

I own a Cayman S 3.4 Tiptronic & have my car with Privilege as a second car & don't need a tracker fitted, but if I took out full insuance with Privilege for the Cayman only I was advised I would need a tracker fitted. So I plan to go with Admiral on a two car policy & was advised I didn't need to fit a tracker to the Porsche but it must have the Standard Porsche alarm fitted. Take care & enjoy your Cayman, Yours Truly Kevin. [8|]

Unless they have changed, Admiral will not cover you for anything other than the base spec car. You have to declare all your factory fit extras, and even alloy wheels will cost more! (saying it comes with alloy wheels and can't be fitted with steel makes no difference to them!). They then charge you extra for each option, and load up the policy, however this is only for the increased risk of being stolen because you have made the car more attractive to thieves - they will still only PAY OUT on the BASE spec cost. Be very careful before you commit to them... If this has changed then please let us know - however that was our experience when we tried them.

I was going to say the same, Mark. Admiral might offer the cheapest quote, but there is/are reasons! Get an "agree value" policy.
