Trackers and insurance

Have anyone else noticed this? The 944 is the first car I've owned that most of my regular insurance brokers won't touch, they keep saying, "Oh, no, we can't, but get a tracker and we can."

I'm not insuring a bloody supercar for goodness sake.

I had to go with autonetinsurance.co.uk and I wish I hadn't.. they're absolutely awful.

FYI I'm 33 with 10 years NCB. Never had an accident. Never had a claim.

autonetinsurance was £295.

Mike, classic car cover for my last turbo was £130 with breakdown cover included - 5 k miles pa, garaged.

I paid around £140 with Admiral for my S2 and it's insured for on street parking. I got lots of quotes and nobody mentioned a tracker.

+1 for admiral with classic discount, 10k mileage and agreed value 7k for £131. No trackers mentioned.

My normal classic insurer (Peter Best) who insures my 1967 Triumph GT6 refused to insure the 944 as it was "too modern".

All the other normal insurers I tried said "tracker please".

I did not try Admiral.. I think I shall next year.

It may have something to do where I live. The TS postcodes (North East region; Teesside locality) is one of the worst to insure in the country due to very high car crime and may add the "tracker needed" thing.

Mike I live in Teesside have had no problems insuring a 1989 911 no tracker, used classic Line this yesr only £199 thats with breakdown cover and agreed value

Had you noticed that they have added European breakdown cover this year Graham? I also negotiated a £20 discount off my renewal which was pretty much identical to last years. I probably wouldn't even have asked if I had noticed that the breakdown cover had increased.

Guess they just hate me! :ROFLMAO:

Or I was having an off day and ringing only the bad ones. Wouldn't surprise me.

Don't beat yourself up over it. I insured my MX-5 with Sureterm once - now THAT is a bad insurance day. [:D]

Simon I was told it was all in when I got the insurance, I normally shop around each year ,last year I was with Hagaty but it came up at £260. I am now paying less now then when I got the car 15 years ago must be a age thing![:)] Not area![8|]

When it comes to classic cars I have always used specialist insurers and shop around to offset what I have to pay in car tax. Adrian Flux, garaged, 5k limited miles £123. I will have to pay an extra £15 for the agreed value but waiting to finish bodywork and respray currently underway

Mike,

They probably took one look at your age and thought how can we avoid insuring this one. If you had said' Yes, it has a tracker fitted' they would have gone for the next thing on their list "Does it have a Flux Capacitor fitted?", "no", "Sorry, we can't insure you".

Try Admiral, or if you don't use is for work then classic car insurance is probably your best bet.

Cheers,
