Trackers

I would be intrested on peoples views on the use of these as security and safety devices. I mean are the pros really put off by a tracker? Are they worth the cost?

I think they are an excellent safety feature but not sure about the security side.

The Pros will not be put off, but they don't know if you have one.

Get one that is good at informing the control center quickly (ie not one that is passive and waits until you notice it's gone next morning). And one that then lets the center track it via GPS/GSM.

The real question is: Do you want to get it back if it gets stolen? Depends on how tough it was to find your car in the first place...

agree with mark-mine is the exact spec etc i wanted and very low mileage so tracker vts a no brainer

My daughter suffered a "millenium" theft earlier this year; the burglars broke into our home while we were away to steal the car keys at 0400hrs one morning Her mini had a tracker fitted. It was found within 1 hour without any damage whereas a neighbours Mercedes stolen earlier the same week via the same technique was never found.

All my vehicles ( cars and motorcycles) now have trackers fitted. Not cheap but in my experience they do work. I am a convert to the system.

...views on the use of these as .... and safety devices. ....

I forgot to mention this in my previous reply, Yes, the better ones now come with panic alarms and impact detection devices that alert the control center, who can then call the car, listen in, talk to the driver, call emergency services etc. Once you have decided to invest in a tracking device the "extras" are not a lot "extra"...

Don't forget that a visible deterrent, such as a Disclok or something similar, is also useful, perhaps in addition to a Tracker. My more disreputable and dishonest clients tell me that seeing a Disclok means that time has to be spent before a successful theft and time is their biggest enemy [other than the police and CCTV].
