Tracking device possible issue ?

Does anyone know if cancelling the tracking contract could lead to immobilisation of a Porsche Boxster?

My Boxster won’t start with the starter motor, when I turn the key it doesn’t even try to start.

with the help of an RAC man last week I managed to bump start the car and take it to a local garage, thinking it may have been the starter motor that failed.

This afternoon the garage phoned me and said the starter motor was not getting power- they thought that the immobiliser may need resetting as the car has not been used for a while (which apparently can happen if the battery power gets low)

This lead me to start thinking, could cancelling the tracking contract lead to immobilisation?

Thanks

Its an interesting point that because if you look at Vodaphone Telematics service, one of the things that they can do is to cut the power to the car so it wont start. It just makes you wonder of they have inadvertently switched the contract off and activated the immobiliser by mistake.

Give them a ring !!

I thought they could only immobilise the car when the car was stolen and they have a crime number from the police.
I’ll give them a ring tomorrow

That's correct but its just strange that you have cancelled your telematics and this has happened !!!

Coincidence ??

Reply from Vodaphone, looks unlikely that the tracker has caused my car not to start.

Thank you for your email. Currently, your device is completely de-active and the sim card needs reconnecting. The tracking device should not be able to lock the engine when it is de-active, it is not designed to do this in the UK unless we send a command down purposely in an active contract. However, we will look into this for you. Firstly we will reconnect the sim card In the device (remotely), then send some commands to the device to get a reading and see what is going on. Please note the sim reconnection can take 3-5 working days, so we will begin this today and keep you updated.
