Trading up to a Macan S from a 718 Cayman

Any thoughts on trading from a 718 to a Macan S ? Reliability any issues with a Macan S ? Thought maybe a 2022 /23 MY
grandchildren now dictate more seats rather than a 2 seater
OPC have offered 25,500 on a Base 718 Cayman with PDK and a few extras 41k miles full OPC service history

Any thoughts…..This dilemma I would think faces a lot of us. We have same if friends come to visit. The Sports car is a kind of treat and I would now miss, so best way round it is to have a cheaper reserve car? I have an older BMW estate for workhorse. We looked at Macan at OPC and fuel consumption on one we borrowed was not great.

this - buy a second beater car for those times you need more seats.

It will be a lot cheaper than the difference between £25k and a Macan S

Keep the 718 and spend the difference on a do it all daily! I always recommend a Golf when anyone asks my opinion on 2nd cars, they come in every flavour and fit most people’s needs.

I would agree with the others, or rent one for the odd occasion if it's not all the time.

I couldn't possibly imagine selling a car I love and maybe worked for just to drive others around.

As excellent as a sporting SUV the Macan is, it is no substitute for a true sports car.

Do as others suggest, you can get yourself another car for less than you would have to spend to trade up to a nearly new Macan. Either a cheap old warhorse, or if you want a bit of fun from it get a used hot hatchback, Golf’s GTI or R, or the excellent Hyundais i20N & i30N, or Civic type R etc.

Buy a Cayenne 958 for around £15k and keep the Cayman. I love mine and drive it daily with excellent fuel consumption too (diesel).

Agree with the logic. We have a Macan S, my wife loves it grunt when required, and comfortable too. However the fuel consumption isn’t great but if you walk in eyes open on that fact you’re ok. We had a base loaner Macan when ours was in for service, the difference in braking systems between the base and S spec was a huge surprise to me. All that said if I could do it again I’d probably go for a Golf GTE as a run around just as others have said.

Get a 24hour loan of a Macan S and cover enough miles to see what YOU think. Drive it like a 718 and mpg won't be great, I've averaged 24.25 over the 14,281 covered since new using ESSO Supreme, my Gen2 2020MY managed 26mpg over the last 1/3 of the time I had it and used the same fuel but that couldn't do 0-60 in 4.4 sec!

We had a very under-used Boxster for just over 6 years and only covered about 15k miles in total.
Had the sports exhaust, roof down experience and everything but the mrs wasnt too fond of me driving it fast, so having only two seats, it was usually me and the son that went out in it.

Last September sold the Boxster and in October the opportunity came to buy a Macan S diesel
We actually took it about 100miles on the test drive! All sorts of driving, slow town, tight twisty country lanes, dual carriageways, motorways every circumstance you could drive in.

I liked it a lot, it was a great move upwards in my eyes and far more practical.
The mrs loved it, the size, the space, the comfort, the refinement, the speed, but all so very effortless too.

Nicely specced Jet black with agate grey leather interior, 18 way adaptive sports seats, pano roof, PDLS lights, LED interior lighting, comfort package the works.

45mpg on the 150 mile drive home (y)

But rewarding on country roads, not at all like the Boxster, but it fits our lives much better and is getting used a lot more, and the 3 of us can all go out in it.

33-35mpg normal mixed driving for me.

Not regretting it, only thing I miss is the noise.

Keep the 718 and look at the diesel, OPC’s have a few in with low miles with 2 year warrant. Had a 2017 Macan since new and other than the pano roof drains at the start, touch wood, no issues. 600 miles on a full tank, about £110 to fill up. I want to get a 718 and keep the Macan. Thought they would have offered a bit more on the boxster, ones I’ve been looking at £40 + for a nice spec.

How do you get on with your 958? Any issues to mention? I have a 987 Boxster and should be picking up a 2012 958 D with 90K on the clock. Full history and 2 owners. Transfer box issues? We needed a 'Family' car so traded the E class estate for it. Good move or bad move???
