Hi have a 1990 964 c4 and the night before it drove fine. the next morning it would fire but not run.
i seem to of found the problem at the transsistor conection.
It will run fine with 1transsistor plug on.
it will run fine with the plug on the other transsistor.
So i have 2 good transsistors.
Could it be a coil fault.
It has new cap, rotors and leads.
any sujestions would be greatfully appriciated.

Paul,

I'm guessing we have a slight language problem here as I'm afraid I have no idea what it is you are referring to as a "transsistor". Since you have new distributor caps, rotors and plug leads, if the problem is ignition related, there's not much left other than coils. There is also the possibility of the distributor drive belt being broken although I'd be surprised if that would cause it not to start. It may run rough, bit to not start at all is a bit of a long shot. TBH, it's a similar situation with the coils - just one bad one is unlikely to prevent it starting. You can check the belt by removing the cap off the secondary (left) distributor and see if you can rotate the rotor by hand. If it move, the belt is broken.

If it starts OK with one or other of these things connects it pretty much rules out things such as the Hall Effect sensor in the distributor too.

Regards

Dave
