Transmission Backlash

Hi folks, newbie so be gentle...

I have transmission clonk, can drive round it but a pain in traffic. Going through the forum and lurking on Titanic I guess its an £900 rubber clutch[&:]. The question is, how can you check if it is? Is there a simple check ( I do simple [FONT= Arial" ][FONT=verdana, geneva"]) If it is the clutch, those ' get you home' stops work well, it took a severe test drive in the Welsh hills [:)]

Hi Mark, welcome [:)]

I haven' t experienced the problem myself but agree that after reading other posts it does sound like maybe your rubber centre in the clutch is finally breaking up, other possibilities could be worn CV joints which I have heard also make a clonk and are much cheaper.

Shop around for clutch replacement I do know that an S2 owner recently had a clutch at the Glasgow OPC for circa £400 labour plus the clutch kit ( £350 I think). A local Porsche specialist would seem to be the best route to at least get it checked out

Thanks Paul,

Living in the flatlands of Norfolk (King' s Lynn) the nearest specialist - Autowerke Norwich - is a 90 mile round trip. Wanted to confirm my fear before taking a day off work.

Off topic, but anyone know of any good independants in my neck of woods?

The guy in Glasgow was me. The symptoms were a clunkiness in drive train when coming on and off throttle. cost was from an independant from memory approx £650 cant be more accurate as it was part of other work
