Transmission noise as standard

Having owned two 944 models,Iam aware that general transmission/axle noise comes as standard[:D] Has anybody out there come up with any solutions for quietening noises down.Ie extra sound deadening maybe?or additives for the axle.
Other than change the oil I havent anything different.

I carried some sound deadening panels in the back of my car last year and it was almost spooky, the lack of familiar noises was disconcerting. If you want to quieten your car I would suggest you try an extra layer of sound absorber or similar under the rear carpet (which would also be dead easy to fit).

- fill the gearbox with Castrol XJ 75W140
- ban abrupt throttle lift offs from your driving vocabulary. I'm not sure there is anything worse than engine braking for transmission bearings.

Given the themes of this thread I will put aside some time to change my gearbox oil too. Since a previous owner has lost the handbook to my car can somebody tell me how much oil the gearbox holds?

Thanks

Alright

2ltr is what it holds, get a decentoil. You need a big 27mm allen key (i think) and you sorted, cheers

Make sure you can undo the filler plug before you undo the empty plug. They often seize and it's a bit frustrating to find out when you have already drained the box [&:]

I had that problem and had to weld a bolt to the sump plug to get it off[]

You can get a hex socket too which goes on the end of a standard 1/2" drive ratchet which makes it a bit easier. Length of clean hose up and over the n/s wheel and have an assistant pump the oil in whilst you hold the tube. Easy job.

Unfortunately I no longer have a beautiful assistant to help me, but then at least I now actually have the time work on my S2 [;)].

Thanks chaps, a job for this weekend then.
