Transmission noise help

Transmission noise help. For the last year I have had a metal against metal spinning noise from the clutch when the ignition is cut. From past experience this noise is a worn thrust bearing which sooner or later needs to be replaced, but not being too eager to start dis mantling the clutch,( not exactly an HB Viva), am I right in my presumption.

It is likely the release (thrust) bearing rubbing on the guide tube. Chris on this forum has worked out a method to grease the tube without removal which you might try to put off the inevitable but if you have sufficient play the the bearing is dragging on the tube when the engine is cut you are probably close to failure of the release bearing.

Thanks for the reply, do you have a link for what you suggest? As my car is up on axle stands at the moment I plan to do the clutch plate measuring thing as suggested on Clark's and take it from there. (Hopefully after Rutland)

Mine was the clutch springs breaking up, sounded like a rattly bearing coming to rest but was bits of spring running around the flywheel, was also accompanied by a slowly worsening (as more springs failed) amount of driveline shunt coming on and off the throttle.
