I will be heading off to Italy in a couple of weeks so I ordered masking foil for the headlights to comply with the regulations governing driving on the right and not dazzling oncoming traffic. When they arrived there were no instructions. Before I get on to PorscheShop where I purchased them does anybody have a set of instructions or a link to a DIY guide. Clearly I do not have zenons. What tools will I need etc Any help appreciated. Don't really wnat to have to go to my dealer. BTW my car is a MY00 986 2.7 and I am so looking forward to the trip.

Note the position of the notch in the mask, relative to the line on the headlamp glass:

Thanks guys. From the diagram I can't make out whether they stick on the outside i.e. on the plastic covers or inside on the lens of the light itself. I will get a jacket too as I have already heard of a mate who was challenged but let off when asked if he had one.

Outside. If you look at the lights you will see the lines to guide you.
Keep the jacket in the car with you - not in the boot (I've heard of someone who proudly got thier jacket out of the boot to show the Policeman, and they were fined as it was in the boot - and therefore you have to get out of the car without it on, which is not allowed...[]. Not sure it was France though - might have been Italy).

Actually, Italian police can be very picky/petty too. I've been to Liguria a few times and we were stopped at random driving over the border into France by Italian Carbinieri. They fined the driver (not me) for only carrying a photocopy of the vehicle ownership documents rather than the originals.

Last time I was in Italy (2007) my friends who now live there told me it is now advisable to drive with headlights on at all times. They live in the Pescara area and sometimes the police will pull over foreign drivers just for the sake of it. Also as in France Hi Vis jacket required and watch for the speed cops waiting to catch the unsuspecting at the end of a slip road coming off the motorways where you haven't slowed down quickly enough.

Oh No so gone are the days of heading back from Le Mans and spotting a French Police Renault 4 heading down the slip road as fast as it can to "stop us" and I just hit the pedal in the Porsche and go :)

or a bunch of UK plated Porsches sat at the ticket booth waiting for the ticket to not say "your not speeding"..... [:)]
