Trickle Charger to Cigarette Lighter

I have purchased a trickle charger to condition the battery as I will not be using the car much going forward. I was under the impression that the 996 had a "hot" lighter and I could attach the trickle charger to this. I have subsequently found as mine is an earlier 996 (3.4) the lighter is not hot hot but is active when the ignition is on.

The charger has clamps to attach to the battery but as the car is outside I really wanted to use the cigarette lighter. Is it simple to make the lighter so it is permanently on and i can use the trickle charger through this?

Thanks in advance

I use the clamps and run the cable through the bottom corner of the bonnet/bumper. Saves wear and tear on the cigarette lighter by constantly pulling and pushing the charger in.

But what about the wear and tear on the bonnet opening mechanism....[;)]
Does the 996 have another socket in the passenger footwell like the 997? If so, is that one always live? There is on post on here

which tells you how to mod the wiring to have a permanent live lighter socket. Looks simple if you know anything about car electrics - or know someone who does![:)]

Cheers captain sounds like a relatively simple mod.

@ Dre,

All you need to do is in the fuse box take a perm 12v feed the the cig lighter fuse bridging the two.

Just make sure you either put an in-line fuse in the bridge or connect to the right side of the original fuse otherwise your circuit will be unprotected.

Should take all of five minutes.
