trickle chargers

Had my 993 in the garage for 2 weeks now "" so time to worry about those little extras I can treat her too and general to do list"¦

My driving profile will be predominately weekend and good weather only so certainly in winter periods could well be several weeks between drives.

Have 2 questions I would be grateful for feedback on:

Considering buying a trickle charger to avoid any flat battery issues. Is there any downside to doing this? Any suggestions of good/best charger to target and sources?

How long can u typically leave a 993 without risking a flat battery/non starter?

I use Accumate, cost about £39, connected directly to the battery with the special lead provided. I use it whenever the car is in the garage and have never had a problem. Would not be without it.

Accumate and Carcoon are the same product. I also use a Carcoon and have nothing but praise for it. With the connector permanently wired to the battery it's so easy to plug in, switch on and leave it. Safe for 24/7 use the only thing you have to remember is to unhook it before you drive off!!!

Thoroughly recommended.

Hi Vince.

Glad to see you have aquired a car <thumbs up>.

Anywhere between 2 to 4 weeks seems to be the limit before the battery drains. I have used a conditioner for three years and its worked great. Bought a combined charger/maintainer from Halfords (own brand). Was 29 quid from memory.

I used one of these >>> battery conditioners <<< available form Halfords or most accessory shops for ~£20. Reason being I already had a perfectly good charger, I just needed something to keep it in trim during periods of low use.

Worked fine. I must confess I cut the leads supplied and hard-wired a short length into the car, permanently connected to the battery, with suitable plug/socket connector to re-join it. It was much easier to connect up each time than fiddle about conecting the crocodile clips that come with it.
