Trickle Charging

Hi. Just a question about battery trickle charging. Having recently purchased a 2013 981 Boxster can someone please help with the following question?
I have purchased a CTEK charger. I note that when opening the bonnet to access the battery to connect the CTEK charger the bonnet interior light obviously comes on.
It seems to also stay on when gently closing the bonnet ajar so as not to damage the trickle charger leads. My question is whether the light stays on or goes off after a certain amount of time? Many thanks.

It goes off after a pre-determined length of time. Don't connect the charger directly across the battery - use the battery positive terminal and a remote earth point.

Are you sure?

The light on the 986 stays on unless the bonnet is fully closed

So I disconnect the bulb

Easiest way to check is to record a video on your phone

Hi, I have a 2014 Boxster 981 and I charge it as follows with a CTEK charger. Switch on the ignition and then plug the CTEK into the cigarette lighter. Then put the power to the CTEK charger. Back at the Boxster turn ignition off and remove key and shut door. The charger i normally place outside the car as I have a CTEK extension lead.

I used to think my 987.2 front trunk light stayed on all the time. It does actually go off, but after a VERY long time.

Hi Stephen. I had a 14plate for 8 years and used the 12v socket in armrest with no battery issue, it stays live so no need to keep ignition on, just plug in. It’s only the later car with the Glass Mat batteries that need to be charged direct to battery, the 12v socket is no longer able to accept charge. Hope you enjoy your car.
Adrian.
