Trip Computer problems

Hi
I have a 1998 Turbo. The digital trip computer in the speedo has the following symbols in it: uou..... meaningless i think, and it doesn't respond to any wiggling of the stalk. Any suggestions, or is it an OPC job?
BTW, i just had two new rear Bridgestone OS-2, N-3's. They seem to be brilliant. Does anyone have any experience with these on a Turbo?

I take it you mean tacho not speedo! All turbos are OBD2 but this isnt relevant. OPC will sell you a new tacho at £1K+ so stay well clear of them!

Julian Reap would be my second choice, my first choice would be wacking the tacho with your knuckles to see if its a loose or dry connection.

+1

Did the car have low voltage for a longer time, i. e. not used and no trickle charger permanently? I had a similar problem and it disappeared after a while and never occured again after using a trickle charger. I never got into it any deeper as the the problem just disappeared.

Thank you for your advice! I note that when I bump I've the threshold to my garage, the information on the display briefly lights up, so it may well be a loose connection. A silly question, but where exactly would you 'whack' the tachometer, on the outside, ie. the dial, or on the inside somewhere?

I wouldn’t just whack it, if I were you [8|].
It sounds more like you have a wiring/connection problem which deserves further proper investigation, especially on such a presumably treasured car. It’s not a old runabout!

So, mindful of the sage advice above, rather than 'whack' the tacho, as recommended by T911UK, i gave it gentle tap with my fingernails and "Lo and Behold" it now works! It is obviously a loose connection which i will have looked at during the next service.
Huge thanks you all who replied - it is good to know that there is such helpful support just a few clicks away.

Ones persons "wack" is another persons "tap", glad you got it working!

Have you seen the thread on 911UK regarding the 993 turbo meet in 2 weeks?
