Hi folks, one of our regulars Ian crosskell has kindly offered to run this trip. A run over to Keswick with a visit to the new Bond museum http://www.thebondmuseum.com/ and then a picnic, weather allowing [:D].

Just waiting for some further details from Ian which I will publish as soon as I have them, let me know if you are interested.

Cheers

Hi Nick/Ian/Lesley
Great idea.
There's a strong possibility Pat and I can make this one. Will confirm a.s.a.p.
Regards
Alan

Further details as promised [:D]

The midsummer run will commence from Barnard Castle (usual meeting place - the high street centre parking bays), leaving promptly at 10.30 am, on Sunday 28th June 2009. Destination, the new Bond Museum at Keswick. Afterwards, weather permitting, there will be a pique-nique on the fields by Derwentwater. So, pack your favourite sandwiches and non-alcoholic tipple and put them in the boot (What boot? "" Okay, under the bonnet then!).

Return via the A66 and Barnard Castle to blow the cobwebs off.

Let us know if your coming [:D]

Cheers

Hi Nick/Ian/Lesley
As per last night's meeting I can confirm that I'll be coming, but not sure who my passenger will be. It won't be Pat, as she has other things already planned.
See you there
Alan

Thanks lads. [;)]

Come on folks there must be a few more of us fancy this? One of our fine and upstanding members has organised a run out I feel we should try and show our support in our numbers! I'm sure it will be a great day out and great roads to boot [:D]

Im in Crete at present ( 30 degrees , sun , sea & s..and only thing i miss is my Porsche ..)
we will be back by then & fancy it if it doesnt conflict with anything

Just noticed on the Bond site that it has a sister museum, also in Keswick, http://www.carsofthestars.com
Is this part of the same setup or separate? If separate would seem sensible to take in both venues whilst in Keswick.

Notice I'm still a guest, Nick tried 2 years ago to get this updated without success. Just emailed IT again and automated message said it would take 4 to 6 weeks to activate. Isn't modern technology wonderful?

Cars of the Stars is a separate building located further in the town at the end of Pack Horse Courtyard (think thats what it's called!).
Theres a pub there called The Pack Horse Inn, which I can recommend for food.

Posting a response to say thanks to those who turned up, despiote a not very promising (not to mention downright miserable) day in Barnard castle. Five cars and nine people turned up, and we duly plunged alog Teesdale with cloud threatening to engulf one and all. Fortunately, it thinned out as we progressed and never detracted from the driving. Descent along the A686 towards Penrith was rewarded by a view of the Lakes in sunshine and warm drink, not to mention toilet facilities, at Melnerby bakery. We then progressed to Penrith and a somewhat crowded roundabout before charging on to keswick (excepting those suffering from a sudden urge to visit Scotland!). Anyway, we were 7 by the time we reached to Bond Museum, but found 3 more .already there, so our discounted entry fees were assured.
The museum itself was interesting, if you like 'hero cars' - those driven by the principal actor and therefore able to suvive. Stuntmen's cars are invariably wrecked it seems. All most impressive for the effort obviously put into finding and then purchasing the cars, but lacking a bit of atmosphere. Personally I would have liked to see some bikinied females lounging about, and perhaps a pool of tiger sharks into which every 21st visitor is pushed! Atmoshere and action!
Hunger then grapped everyone's attention and pursit of the picnic ensued. fortunately, despite a little drizzle, the sun came out for those who chose to walk to the head of Derwentwater and then on to Friars Crag. Each went their separate ways after tha, but Lesley and I enjoyed an uncluttered and therefore fast return along the A66 in quite pleasant weather.
So, thanks again for turning up, and hope everyone duly enjoyed their day.

You must know by now Peters navigational skills leave a little to be desired! And why break with tradition of, in Peters words, 'knowing exactly where we are just not where we are supposed to be'!
