Trolley Jack

Can you recommend a compact (lightweight) trolley jack that I can use with a Boxster 987 as no jack is supplied? Do I also need a rubber plate to protect the jacking point?

Paul

Very tricky to use a trolley jack as there is no legitimate place to use an axle stand. Draper does a range of trolley jacks from around £30 upwards. www.draper.co.uk Also Sealey.

Get on ebay & search for aluminium racing jack.
If you buy a low entry jack, it will do for when you upgrade to a GT3[;)]
I got a Predator Jack, with matching axle stands for about £130 incl. delivery & I'm very pleased with it.

The RAC one form Argos fits fine, but you need a small rubber mat to stop slippage from the jacking points. £20 for occassional use.

Do I need special rubber jack plates as per type911 in GT magazine or is there a cheaper option?

Paul

I had my car in to the body shop and I notice that the paint has come off the jack point. Is that life or should I get it sorted?

An ice hockey puck makes a good rubber pad, especially if your jack has a dish that is large enough to sit the puck in.

sawood, I'm from Derby too, where the hell did you get an ice hockey puck from, dude, totally.

I'm afraid I cannot take credit for that idea, I read it on the Rennlist Porsche forum in the US where it is a common solution. However with one of the premier ice hockey teams in the UK based in Nottingham i'm sure you shouldn't have any problems in getting one (not that i'm an Ice Hockey fan i'm just assuming that the Nottingham based team is one of the best in the country!!).
