Trolley Jacks

Hello

I am after a Trolley Jack for lifting my car.

Can anyone suggest a model suitable for getting under our cars? Does it need to be a low profile one?

Have been looking at the below unless someone can point me in the direction of a national retailer I can go and buy and collect from.

or this one

Any thoughts or suggestions

Cheers

Lee. Ive got one of those also.. Great tool + lightweight aswell....
Like, Nick has said , you can get them from machine mart...Although i got mine of flea bay b4 MMart stocked them, Ive had it about 2 years....

That Clarkes tool looks nice, but it's not cheap!

I have a couple of old trolley jacks, both of (pretty much) the same design. One by Halfords, one by JCB. (I have seen the same design 'made' by a number of other people as well, to the extent that I suspect they are made in the same factory and painted different colours once made.) It just about fits underneath my S2, although mine is standard height and you may struggle with a lowered one.

That's the same as the ones I have.

Only grumble is that when you jack up the side of the car (as you have to on a 944), the jack wheels do sink into the tarmac a fair bit ... especially on a hot day.

That Clarkes jack is rubbish, they only lift 1.2T this is about the weight of a 944 turbo. I have one and after a few jacks oil starts pissing out. [:'(] Save your money and buy a cheap one.

Hmm, good point - I've recently had the drive done, so will have to find something to sit it on to spread the load...

I have a Draper 59340 bought for £19.99 at a local motor factors and it goes down to 130mm which fits under both my cars with over an inch to spare, so unless you are extremely lowered it will do fine

Hi Paul

Do you use a larger diameter disc with rubber insert to sit between the jack and where it touches the car or as is?

I thought a specific Porsche Trolley Jack disc was available or did I dream that?

Cheers

No. The cup of the jack is just about perfect to fit under the cicular jacking point half way along the sill. I've seen those plates that fit between the jack and the car but tbh I think it's a bit of overkill and you would probably need one of those super low jacks to make sure you had clearance

Costco seem to do a 2 ton jack that is quite low and should get under the car - it certainly looks lower than my jack. It also has quite a large dia flat disk, so ideal for using on the inner sub-frame if you use a rubber/wood pad.

I have one of the cheaper machine mart jacks - not sure of the model, I'd have to go & check in the garage but it's raining [:D]

It's one specifically for low clearance cars - even so I have to jack mine on dead level ground, otherwise I can't get it under.

Anyone know where you can get a good set of block with a ramp to drive your car onto to raise it a few inches? Currently i'm using an array of block paving bricks but would like something a bit better.

I also have a Costco trolley jack --- and use a shallow paving slab to raise the car when required.

I bought the lightweight aluminium one from Argoose for £89. Very light and lower than a snakes belly. Looks cool to boot!

Scott.
Try geting hold of a railway sleeper. Cut it down to size ,[about 2ft 6" long sections] then make an angle cut to run the car up on. I have just that + it works great...

I use the plastic levelling blocks from my motorhome then use a large 3 ton trolley jack and axle stands.

About £15 from a caravan shop.

Don't forget to put them back before lowing[;)]

I have looked for a lower jack, but found them to be too high at the back and not long enough to reach the front box section.

Longer the jack higher the lift.
