Trouble filling with petrol

Most times when filling up I have trouble putting more than 10 litres in before the pump resets like when its full. Its not a major problem but very annoying and its takes ages to fill the car. This happens with 95 and 98 and any brands.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I point the nozzle to the front which helps at a lot of pumps otherwise just a gentle squeeze of the pump handle - but it's a feature of the car I'm afraid.

As John says it's a comon problem and quite annoying. I invert the nozzle (so the handle faces the nearside front wheel), which always seems to work, but looks stupid!

It might be this:

Like others, I use the pump nozzle at an angle and it does the job.

If that doesn't work then I have a mate who cannot pee when other people are around the urinal, so try filling up when there are no other car around :ROFLMAO:
Also, don't forget to shake at the end... [;)]

Thanks for the advice, cant believe its a feature. Will just have to try a variety of filling positions not bothered about looking stupid as at the moment Im spending twice as long at the pumps as anyone else.

It's a tongue in cheek remark as it's a feature arrived at by accident rather than design.

Bet they are designed for the US pumps... why don't we have a proper locking triggers like they do in States for filling up the tank without holding on? I understand that in States you have to pay before you fill but here we have a tiny trigger lock bit which I have never got to work...

It depends on where you are and how you want to pay as to if you need to pre-pay.

I've wished for years that the handle of the pumps in this country didn't have the holding catch removed. It's so much easier to start it off, latch the catch and worry about other things while the car effectively fills itself.

There is a reason why it was removed but i've forgotten as it was so long ago.

In the UK .. I use the Petrol Cap to jam the trigger open :) then you can clean the rubbish out of the door pockets etc
