did you clean the engine bay ? might have got some water in the ignition/charging/starter electrics maybe ? otherwise check immobilser, ignitions switch ,DME relay etc. If its not even turning over I would start with checking the battery has a full charge and your immobilser/alarm is working properly.

Had you had the car running before you cleaned it Steve? Just trying to think if it is something the water did or if you haven't run it for a week and the battery gave up in this time.

Time for a new battery. My one died on me suddenly. No warning at all. I had similar situation as you with a few lights flashing etc. New battery installed for two months now and all is well again.

Your battery is either on its ast legs or is simply discharged to a low levbel state by leaving the radio/cd player on whilst cleaning - one is a battery change, the other just a charge

Sounds like the battery to me. Ive had this a number of times with various cars, The clicking is typically the battery building enough charge to attempt to move the starter then discharging almost instantaeously as it attempts to move the engine.
