Trying to trace the history of my 964..

I bought my C2 last year from SAR Classics in Kimpton, in the knowledge that it was without any log book or service history. I have finally got round to sending the V888 form off to the DVLA to hopefully track down some past owners. The little I do know about the cars is as follows:

First registered G658 VJD 21/02/1990.

Number Plate Changed to G11 GER 04/04/2004.

Number Plate Changed back to G658 VJD 16/03/2009.

Car Acquired by SAR Classics 06/05/2009.

It has Christopher Jackson sticker in the back window, so at some stage it might have been based somewhere south of manchester.

Pictures are attached, if you think you recognise it, or know any of the previous owners or garages who have worked on it then please PM me. It had a full set of Bilsteins fitted recently in its life if this helps.

I'm obviously posting quite bit of info about the car on this forum, so if people think this could place me at risk the please let me know and i'l tr to cut it down.

Thanks for any hep you can give! [;)]

If you call Anne Burnham in customer services of Porsche Cars GB Ltd (0118 930 3666) and give her the VIN she will be able to give you some history of the car (you'll have to provide proof that you own the car when doing this). This is mostly limited to confirming the original engine and gearbox numbers, original paint and trim colour and a list of the factory supplied options. For a fee you can get all this in writing which is nice to have if you haven't got the factory sticker in the service book (I see you don't have the original one) or under the bonnet (if the bonnet has been replaced).

Like the colour wheel combination Elliot, well smart [;)]
Unfortunately can't give any clues for your search. Perhaps DVLA will be able to tell you which dealership the car began it's journey and from there your investigations may unfold. Good luck

Does your V5 not give you name/address of the previous owner?
Anyway the V888 should get you all their names/addresses from DVLA

The very best of luck with the project.

I have recently finished compiling a full history of my own 964 and it makes a nice document to have, that's for sure.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll defo give Anne a call to see what help she can provide.

DVLA will be a good starting point. I'm speaking to Porsche chiswick to get a 2nd key made up, so i'll see if they are willing to help too.

Got some advice from 911UK forum which was useful. Past MOTs can be traced here:

http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECSID-Internet-Status-Request.jsp

I found that my two previous MOTs were carried out within 400 yards of each other in the North Finchley / Muswell Hill area.

I'll try to make contact with the MOT centres and also give JAZ a call to see if they know the car.

The snag you'll hit nowadays, which I didn't have when I was starting to compile mine, is that everyone's bound by the data protection act.

That is a problem. I have experience where a dealer had refused point blank to give any history regarding a vehicle, saying the history of the vehicle belongs to the previous owner [&:]. Then, on the other hand I've spoken with dealers who are more than happy to contact previous owners on your behalf and ask whether they can be contacted. If you don't ask you won't know. Generally, you'll find there are those who are willing to help regardless and those unless there something to gain are not interested. That's life!
All the best with your detective work [;)]

This is the age we live in, unfortunately...

With my car, I was able to get some MOT history from the DVLA, but the garage who had carried out much of the work on the car were very helpful indeed with filling in the missing pieces of the service history, providing copy invoices & even stamping the service book where the previous owner had neglected to have this done.

Good luck with your search.

I spoke to Jaz and they knew the car and were helpful. They told me the previous owners name and the work they had carried out, namely all the lowering work and later oil pipes and an oil tank were replaced. It doesn't look like he had the servicing done with them unfortunately.

I should get the same name and address from the DVLA, but if for some reason he doesn't respond then I asked if Jaz could contact him on my behalf and pass on my contact details.

It's a good start at least!

Can anyone suggest other garages near North Finchley/Muswell Hill I could try?

If you fill in the MOT info (see above link), you can find all the MOT details going back to 2006 (when the system went digital)! This gives contact numbers for all the MOT stations the car was tested at, along with pass and fail details of each test. It's a free service (makes a change)!!
I sent a V888 to the DVLA back in November. Having heard nothing as yet I phoned them today.
They were very helpful and said they have to go back through masses of micro film to find my cars details going back 1991. The good news is that they are waiting for the last piece of missing information and would push my request to the top of the pile as it had taken them so long!! I should have it within the week! [:)]

Well worth the £5 charge I think.

Good luck,
Simon

There are various specialists in the vicinity e.g.

JZ Machtech in Kings Langley
No 5 in Chiswick/Acton Town

Perhaps others know more...try looking in the back of PP (I notice from your profile you don't appear to be a member) if you get it.
