TT Spoilers

Hi,

Currently on the hunt for a TT - seem to be seeing a couple of variants on the spoiler.

Could anyone tell me the difference between this and the standard spoiler?

That's the optional 'Aerokit' Pack with fixed spoiler.
Comes with an extended front splitter (often bodycoloured and expensive to always have to touch up)

Thanks Rodney, I'd seen a few with the aero kit but never put that together before. Funnily enough I seem to like the spoiler but prefer the standard splitter...

You will find some with just the rear spoiler as it is likely that the splitter was replaced with the standard one, for example here is a likely candidate (perhaps the one posted earlier), clearly the standard front splitter:

Rodney - Temperamental!! I love the car, externally looks amazing, cabin is stunning, noise is something else. Just sick of niggles and I don't trust the car. We started off on the wrong foot with a major issue post purchase which was all handled under AM warranty but ever since there has always been something. Electric windows fail, mirrors lose auto close, brakes squeeking etc etc. As much as I value the AM dealer network(they treat you well!) I'd like to go 3 months without it needing to go back in! I feel like I can't tinker with it either due to losing too much on resale value so the 996TT seems like the likely replacement.

Nick - That was the one I was looking at!! I like that look, standard front aero rear. Just need to fit it in X50 I think.

Meant to add. Whats the retro fit like on the aero spoiler? Easy to swap out the standard if I find one? What should I expect to pay on one?

Reasonable job minus the PIWIS un-coding of the moving spoiler. You are sat down .... circa 5.5K for the kit plus paint, the odd one or two (rear) appear on ebay from time to time for half the original cost.

Funny, i'm the exact opposite. I love the aero front splitter but prefer the smooth look original spoiler. That's what I plan to do noe i'm keeping the car so if you buy an aero equipped car and don't want the splitter i'll happily take that off your hands :)

Hey Jon, thanks for the info. I've heard it all before, and also about the good AM dealers. A friend sold his GT2, bought an AMV8, after 2 months he sold it and bought his old car back! You know it makes sense.

FWIW I prefer the original aero. That subtle rear spoiler is sleek and purposeful and so is the front. The aerokit just seems to be a bit angular to sit comfortably with the rest of the body.

Yeah, i love mine with the aerokit on, certainly gives it a different look, and thats from someone who always said no way to anything like that.

I would say for sure, go and look at both, with and with not. As when i saw an option, I was blown away.

Porsche say

Continuous evolution is a key Porsche design principle "" no matter how accomplished the car. With the Aerokit Turbo, you can optimise handling on the 911 Turbo Coupé models for even the most challenging track conditions. The lightened rear lid offers a considerable weight saving over the standard engine cover. The fixed rear spoiler incorporates a high-level third brake light and signals the car's potential. For reasons of safety, the distinctive rear lid and spoiler unit must be fitted in conjunction with the matching front lip spoiler.

Hope that helps??

You are more than welcome to come see mine, wouldnt let you take her home though [:D]

Nick - £5.5k for the kit - ouch. I'll have to find one with it on, not spending that on a £30k car!!!!

Interesting comments on the Aero from Porsche Steve - where abouts are you based always up for a look round a nice car! I think the main decision making factor on two cars one aero and one normal that I'm interested in would be general condition but I do like that aero rear spoiler!

Rodney - I'm not surprised, I think a lot of Aston owners put up with the problems due to the magicness of the marque/car, fair play to your mate for chopping back in! I don't know what it is about Astons but they feel very special, and they look bloody gorgeous - see pic to follow from a recent detail!

One question - With the Turbo S - Are they all X50 at 489bhp? I saw an S advertised as 450bhp, is that an S without X50 or something? Or just a mistake?

Jon - stunning! They look beautiful, they sound beautiful, they ooze class. Like Ferraris, people are prepared to put up with a lot to keep them.

All turbo S' were 489bhp and had an X50 with a power hike. I think that was just a mistake at 450bhp, unless it's not a turbo S. Have a look at the calipers, they should be yellow as all S' had PCCBs as standard. If in doubt, ask for the VIN and you can put it through a decoder or the initial build spec to work out what it really is.

Oi! No posting porn, please! [8|]

Despite considerable debate in the past, I am sure that the Turbo S is the 450bhp X50 engine. The GT2 was 462bhp originally, and increased to 489bhp at the end of production.

Ah, I stand corrected. Did you get a VIL from an S to determine that, or did you resolve the conundrum in another way Rich?

I think the confusion lies with engine numbers. The MY2005 996 Turbo S and GT2 engine numbers both start M96.70.645xxxxx, and I think people think they are the same engine. However, the next digit determines whether if is in the range of TS or GT2 engines. TS are 6450xxxx and GT2 are 6452xxxx.

All the publicity shows the Turbo S as being 450bhp too. See the brochure in the FAQ pages.

I was always under the impression that the Turbo was 420bhp, the Turbo S was 450bhp and the GT2 was 480bhp.

There was a MKII GT2 that got the 489bhp engine.

I don't think they share the same exhausts either. The X50/S and GT2 got a better flowing one than the stock turbo.

Here are the engine codes. The X50 Power Kit had two variants, a 450bhp (331kW) version for the Turbo, and a 462bhp (340kW) version for the GT2. You can see the MY2005 GT2 engine at 489.

Note, where it shows 911 Turbo GT2, it does not mean Turbo/GT2.
