Turbo 2, 3.6

Anyone know how many RHD, C16 spec, 964 Turbo 2, 3.6l models were sold in the UK in 1993/1994? I've heard various figures quoted between about 40 and 70? Who recorded this stat, Porsche Cars at Reading?

Also, is it a 965, or 964 Turbo - again, I keep getting different information from reading articles, postings, etc?

42 cars according to Porsche Cars GB....and they are designated 964 Turbo 3.6.
The 965 project was cancelled, but at a late stage, hence there are indeed Porsche part numbers that commence with 965.

Thanks John

I'm lucky Maurice, in that my predecessor ( well actually, his predecessor ) Mike Connell had all this info given to him by Porsche Cars GB, which he subsequently published. Unfortunately, his info only goes up to the end of 1994 and doesn't cover the 993 Turbos.
Getting info out of Porsche Cars GB themselves is difficult, as it depends on you persuading someone to be as interested as you are.....and I also seem to recollect a request from our current board that all contact with Porsche Cars GB should be made via them!
Like you, I get this type of question all the time, and it doesn't help when the magazines publish factually incorrect articles, such as Total 911 reprinting this month that there were only 15 UK 930 LE's - there were 50.

42? Isn't that the same number that Porsche quote for the UK quota of the 964 C4 Celebration?
Just coincidence or the meaning of life [:)]

Hi John
I have a 1995 LHD Turbo 2. Must be one of the last, and a great car. I did not know that the 965 was never produced, and always assumed that the correct designation for mine was 965, as it's in the chassis number, ie, WPOAC2965RS480374. Is this just coincidence?

Alan,

It's pure coincidence I'm afraid. The model designation is actually digits 7 and 8 (96) and digit 12 (4). I'd guess it's pretty unusual to see a US car here in the UK - most of the LHD imports are from Europe. Does your car have the higher suspension to meet the US bumper regs??

Regards

Dave

Hi Computamedic
Thanks for the response. My car may well have had higher bumpers originally, but I understand it came back from the USA and had engine management upgrade, lowered suspension, sports exhaust, etc, fitted by Roock Racing, and came into the UK in 1998. I bought it from Specialist Cars of Malton (advertised as 420 bhp) 4 years ago with 19000 miles on the clock (MPH speedo). It's now got 52000 miles on, I get it serviced by Redline Racing (North East) Ltd, who look after it very well. Even after four years it still blows my mind when that turbo comes in!! Love it to bits. If it has worked, there may be a pic attached!!
Regards
Alan

Kind of you to say so, James.
Saw your pics from Elvington. Looks like you had a good time.

How very true John, a lot of questionable chassis numbers could be sorted at a stroke by Porsche GB/AG....we have a 964RS with what we believe to be maybe a pre-production chassis number could anyone be bothered to check......the second hand market and enthusiasts who preserve these fine cars and thus promote the great hereditary of Porsche could have a bit bettre co-operation they asked me for £50 to do a check on a car!
