Hi,
I'm in the process of buying a 996 turbo (not S) and looked at an approved Porsche car recently which appeared to me to have quite a high level of wear on all four discs. The car has about 30k on the clock but the dealer couldn't tell me how old the discs on the car were and wouldn't say how much wear they had in them, only that the car had been through the 111 point inspection and the discs were deemed acceptable. The dealer also suggested that I would need to replace the discs/pads at some point over the next three years anyway either through normal use or because the discs commonly rust and get pitted if the car is not used regularly - a common problem with the 911 apparently.
I've been told that a disc/pad change is about £2k and if there is a lip on the disc that they would likely need changing quite soon - so obviously I'm concerned that I might have to lay out that kind of money shortly after purchasing the car - not something I would expect to have to do with a Porsche approved car.
Any advice or experience with brake wear/issues would be greatly appreciated and also comments wear/road performance of the ceramic brakes on the turbo S. I'm not likely to use the car on the track at all and would probably do about 6k miles per annum in it.
Thanks
Dave
