Spoke to someone at reading this afternoon.
As mentioned in Autocar this week, the 996 Turbo will continue to be sold alongside the 997, when it arrives. I assumed this might be for 6 months or so, but was told today it could be up to 2 years.
All Turbo slots are taken for this year, so an order now will not be fulfilled till Q1 '05 (plenty of time to save, unless pre-owned is chosen).
The person I spoke to mentioned that there will be a limited edition Turbo S as a run out edition. I hadn't heard about this before.
I don't know what the spec would be or the time frame, but would guess it would be available for the last 6 months of production. It would have to have the X50 option, but there would need to be something more to mark it out (such as with the 550 Boxster or the Anniversary 996 C2). I don't know what.
BTW - The GT2 they have a Reading is a '04 model year version, with the increased power (468 bhp I think). The front lip is missing, it is put on once they wheel it out of the showroom since it catches on the floor otherwise. No further revisions are planned for the 996 GT2.
It belongs to Porsche Cars GB, so you have to speak to them if you want to drive it.
They sold about 6 GT2's last year.
