Turbo back box source

Afternoon all, I was planning to pop along to the Thatcham show but the middle mount of my exhaust went awol causing lots of strain on the already elderly tailpipe until it failed. I thought it would be fine to drive wired up but a lack of end pipe meant lots of exhaust in the cabin and the noise isn't pleasant.

So best place to buy a rear section or get a custom back box?

Hi James

i'll probably be too late for you but once I have my engine back in and the custom fabricated exhaust fitted i'll have exhaust parts available. My backbox is a Janspeed twin pipe variant, rest of the exhaust is standard. unfortunately I won't part with them before I'm sure that they are no longer needed.

regards

Pete

Cheers, yeah I've had the car off the road for a month swapping out the worn out D9 clutch disk and belt change, so keen to use the car. Any recommendations? I've seen the dansk rear section for ÂŁ258, which would be ok but I hear the quality can be variable. I could just fit a generic back box to the remains of pipe as it's in good condition until something better turns up.

Hi Simon....I'll give you the heads up when it's available......James..iirc Hayward and Scott are supposed to be good, not used them myself though...I bought Janspeed as it's what i had used on past cars, quality is very good and the twin pipe is a very nice fit in the diffuser opening, they also do a large oval pipe, Tony ( 944 turbo) had one. imho the twin pipe looks far better than the standard back box pipe. , afraid i don't know anything about dansk product.

Thanks Pete I too presumed that James would have found something long before then.

James, with regards to spurious Dansk product: Jon Mitchell is adamant that he has better quality Dansk exhausts and I believe that he is prepared to stand by them.

I have the Hayward & Scott - quality is very good and it sounds nice too.

I've had mine for years so not sure what the cost will be now, but it didn't seem unreasonable at the time.

You can also choose the tailpipe configuration - single, oval, twin, straight cut, slash cut, upswept etc.

If you go for twin pipes, they need to be a bigger diameter than you would initially think [:D]

not sure Janspeed wanted to make any more though without a big order

haha... I remember that monster...:) I was very tempted to get the same at the time but decided on the twin pipe version instead, I thought I hadn't seen many Janspeed's out there.. in fact none since the time we got ours...shame as they are quality boxes from a top company who know their stuff...iirc I first had a Janspeed on my Ford MK2 Cortina...many, many years ago...later on my XR3i ..:)

Hi James,

You could try Chelsea Carrera in High Wycombe. They had a good used turbo back box when I was in there, although it was several months ago.
