Turbo - blowing noise

Hi All,

I have a loud whoosing/shhshing sound when the turbo kicks in and continues until I let off the accelerator, it was running ok. Could it be the intercooler hoses or the wastgate?

All the hoses except the intercooler ones have been replaced with silicone hoses.

Silicone hoses can be much more of a problem than the standard ones, partly due to their surface being very slippery and therefore easier to be pushed out from under hose clamps.

It does sound like you have a bad connection or a split hose.

Likewise, you could have a bad valve on the brake servo or a vacuum hose which has blown off.. Hard to diagnose via text alone.. I see some examination and investigation in your future.

I have checked all the vacuum hoses and all are ok but thought these would not cause the noise as these should not be under lots of pressure. The noise is really load. I will check all the connections of the silicone hoses and check the hoses which haven't been replaced. Unfortunately I am away from Wednesday till the end of the month so it is going to be a while till I get this looked at and drive again.

The valve on the break servo is that a straight forward replacment

Is your wastegate still plumb in to exhaust ? That would release air to regulate boost level. ( known as a screamer pipe) if it was intercooler pipe I would suspect your get no boost as turbo wouldn't be getting to intake

Yes it is still bolted to the exhaust, if that is what you mean or do mean come loose

Maybe come loose as it wasn't there but now is. As your set is with it in plumbed in it would off made the noise it now maybe making

check the pipe connections on the wastegate (the silicon ones) - wonder if too much heat on the silicon has caused the issue.

Let me know and I will have a look when I come and sort the seats if you like.

Pipes on the wastegate all ok, but noticed that the pipe that connects to the intercooler on the drivers side seems a little loose so could be that not sealing correctly and I think that is the air input so it could cause the sound

Yes, that could also cause a wooshing sound. I would try to tighten it up, but also see if the hose is OK. From memory the connectors are around £15 from Porsche.

not too bad a price the, will do that when I get back from my holiday going to be a long two weeks [:(]
