Turbo boost won't

My turbo will not boost above 1 .15 on the gauge, this is my first turbo so can you boost masters please tell me where to look first for the problem.

Barely above 1BAR/atmospheric pressure on the built in boost gauge, or 1.15BAR on an aftermarket gauge?

Thanks for your suggestion I will check them. I am hoping for a simple solution rather than an expensive one so keep them coming ....please.

The cars gauge reads differently to virtually all aftermarket gauges. 1.15BAR on an aftermarket is massive boost in a 944, but 1.15BAR on the tachometer gauge is virtually none.

Boost - do you get something then lose it or does it never appear?

I'd be banking on a couple of things, all of which are listed on Clark's guide HERE:

-A vacuum leak
-Cycling Valve connections are iffy (it will default to a maximum boost of 0.2bar)
-ruptured recirculation valve;this will cause the same issues.

Basically, if there is a fault with the system the car will only boost to 1.2Bar of absolute pressure, the 0.2bar being the exhaust pressure that will open the wastegate diaphragm spring.

There is a chance it could be an split intercooler hose, although I was under the impression the car runs badly with them broken.

Will running the car in this condition do further damage?

Not if it simply isn't generating boost, but its hard to answer until you know what the cause was.

I had the same issue, turned out to be a broken wastegate spring[:)]

Not the cheapest fix then? :(.

Saying that, I have known of a couple of people recently to buy a 951 thinking it is OK to see it boost at 1.2Bar on the gauge, until the issue being pointed out. Through process elimination they then are in for a surprise once the full level of boost is restored [:D].
