Turbo brakes

You have an "s", right? IIRC (i.e., don't quote me on this) but your discs and caliper mountings are different to Turbo's so I think you'll need the whole kit and caboodle, not just the calipers. Someone else is bound to know better than me though! IIRC again, the rear calipers are the same as the turbo's anyhow......

Even so, for a Turbo brake setup, try these:
www.porsch-apart.co.uk
www.berlyn-services.co.uk
www.clubautosport.co.uk

yep mine's an s. Yeah thought i would need the whole kit n kaboodle.

Pikey to the rescue as usual with the contacts lol

I'll go get my Superman cape! [&:]

I'm only regurgitating what i've found on Porsche forums over the years. I cant take any credit for bookmarking!

lol.

i will try ringing a ew of those numbers tomorrow.
Do you know roughly what i am going to be spending? and wot size are the discs on a turbo. Bit more substantial than my 's' ones to fill the wheels a bit better.

wouldn't have a clue I'm afraid. I don't recall if you have to even get hubs and/or wishbones to get the wheels in the right place!

If things get too silly, you might like to consider a set of Willwood calipers available from rennbay.com . They've been reviewed OK by the rennlist boyz.

Oh, and I don't think turbo brakes are a bigger diameter, just thicker, better venting, better calipers etc etc. If you want bigger, then maybe have a look at big reds or big blacks. Examples of them at www.paragon-products.com , but search for a good price. Paragon are usually amongst the best, but you never know who's doing a special.....

do the wilwoods run standard size discs though?

i just really want to try and fill up the inside of the wheel a bit more with BIG discs lol

Try halfords! [:D]

Big reds and blacks are bigger diameter. the 944 brakes were all meant to fit under 16" wheels, whereas the reds & blacks were off 928S4's and big 911's and meant for 17"s. After that, start reading the demon tweeks catalogue for AP racing stuff, and expect the worst......

I'm not sure i've seen a set of reds&blacks for the "s" though. maybe not much call, but equally, maybe not done.?

IIRC, the rennbay kit is meant to run on standard discs.

cheer Pikey.

Think i will go for the wilwood ones, looks like a very good kit, just buy some drilled discs and make them look like the turbo 911 brakes ;)

Thanks for the help

I've just been hunting forums.rennnlist.com for some reccomendations or findings on them from the Yanks. and I can't find a lot. You'll need to email Travis at rennbay anyhow so he can quote you on shipping, but you might like to ask him for some feedback from his customers on them before you buy. alternatively, post over there on the 944 forum, and see what they say.

I know Travis won't sell rubbish, but the gains may be marginal over a proper caliper overhaul and a decent set of pads/discs, and that ain't gonna set you back $750+shipping+tax.

The brakes from the 928S4 that are fitted to M030 equipped 944 Turbo's will fit under 16" wheels as these were the standard sized wheels fitted to the car. The disks are a larger dia, thicker and the calipers are bigger. The 993TT 'Big Reds' and 928 GTS 'Big Blacks' (same as big reds apart from colour I believe) were never fitted to 944 Turbos as standard and will need 17" wheels as the disks are even larger dia, but they do fit on the 944 M030 hub/spindle Assy's without the need for brackets.

Promax do big black kits that consist of the disks, calipers, pads and SS braided lines for a pretty reasonable price as I've been pricing up brakes recently and they are pretty pricey items and hard to come by - properly refurbed ones are almost as much as new - I've seen big reds on ebay going for between £350 and £500 - throw in another £300 for new disks and another £100 or so for pads and you are up at the cost of the Promax Big Black kit. All you would need in addition are the right brackets.

It's true that the std brakes are perfectly adequate for most people but you can't beat a wheel filled with disk and caliper. I cringe when I see boyed up Corsa's with 17" wheels and brake disks the size of 10p pieces!!

The difference between big reds and big blacks (apart from the colour) is that big blacks are dgigned for leading mount (944 / 968 / 928) and big reds are trailing mount (911).

This means that the bleed nipples are the wrong way up and both they and the crossover pipes need to be swapped position. Apart from that, red is the best colour !! [:D]

I wouldn't touch Wilwood brakes; I haven't heard much good about them and too much bad. I think they are cheap in every sense of the word.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I have a complete set of 944 250 Turbo calipers in my garage (front and rear) if anyone wants any. They need a coat of paint but the plates and seals are good.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I'd agree with you there Fen. There were Wilwoods on my Ultima when I bought it. They really were rubbish. They were definitely of the "cheap and nasty" style. They look nice when they're on the car with the wheels on, but they're crap where it matters (ie, stopping you).

I took them off and replaced them with a nice set of 4 pot Brembos, and they would stop the car on a sixpence.

I still have the Wilwoods in a box in my garage. Maybe I'll stick them on eBay some day. I'm sure that a Chav will give me something for them to go on his Nova [:D]

Jamie,[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]They are provisionally sold as you know through email. They are going to go on a 968 because unless specified with M030 the 968 had smaller front callipers than the 250 944 Turbo; the same as the 944 S2 and 220 944 Turbo in fact.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]
