Turbo Cup Mirrors and Ducts

Does anyone know where I can source a set of Turbo Cup mirror tops and a pair of driving/fog light replacing brake ducts?

Mirrors are the same as some 924.
The panels that replace the fog lights and on which you attach brake ducts are as far as I know not available, but nice replicas are still made by a company in France (they follow the rounded shape of the bumper contrary to the ham-fisted/half-finished, flat ones usually found on the original racers).
Send me an e-mail if you are looking for a set.

Hello Thom. I didnt recognise the mirrors as 924 type: are you sure? A long, long time ago I had a 1979 model poverty spec 924 (no tints, manual windows, no sunroof etc). This had a flag type case with a cable operated inside painted body colour on the drivers side and a VW derived black plastic mirror screwed to the top edge of the passenger side door. 'Lux' models had a pair electrically operated flag mirrors. Were these found on domestic or mainland European models only?

I can email now if you wish, although Im only looking for prices and availability at present.

It seems to me these black plastic mirrors, thicker than the chrome-ish ones fitted to the earlier 924, went into production sometime at the beginning of the 80s, but I could be wrong, and yes they were taken from the common parts bin when the Cup cars were built - I even believe that the shells are actually from the VW Rabbit.
As I now live near the German border and know a couple of 924/944/968 breakers around I could go and have a look for a pair if you can't find a set locally.

Send me an e-mail and I will give you the address of the company that makes the ducts. Last time I looked the pair cost about 30euros in fiberglass, a bit more in carbon fiber. I actually have a spare set lying around that was on my car when I bought it but I took them off as the French MOT don't like the omission of driving lights, and have since been looking at modifying them to fit some driving lights in them...

PS : this is Seb's car (Asarus) and yes we are talking about the same items. BTW the front panels for ducts are from the company I'm talking about, they are not original Cup items. The mirrors on his car are painted, which is not original either ;-)

Hi Simon,
Mirrors: the pic seems to have gone. Do you mean like these? If so, available from Porsche for about £300 a pair. Let me know if you want the part number

Just like that Sean. I apologise Thom: They were just as you say and my own car had (one of) these and not a flag after all. They werent painted in body colour either...[:)]

The picture works for me btw.

Well, assuming you call "flag" mirrors the electric/defreezing ones all 944 have then I think only the 924 turbo and 924S had them.

Sean, were those the original ones on your 924S?

Hi Thom,

No, I had standard electric flags (that weighed about as much as the door [:D]).
PET number for those is 477 857 522D, on a 944 S2 they were part of US option M637

Hmmm... I'd be interested to know how much work was involved in fitting them.
Did you reuse the bases of the flag mirrors?

I remember spending a couple of hours with Seb (the guy with the red Cup car pictured above) partly taking the left unit off the door in order to replace the gasket but can't remember much from it apart that we miserably failed to make the new gasket seat properly with the base and refitted to old dry one :p

Hi Thom,
The mirrors come from Porsche (in a dusty box..) with the base and a sealing gasket. The "footprint" is slightly different from the flags, so some polishing of door is required, but they fit really easily, using the same attachment points/tightening hex screw as the flags.

They're light. They're sturdy. And seeing pictures of Rothmans 944 with them on from the 1980's gets me all nostalgic..

Oh. And another thing about the Cup mirrors. Whether by design, whether by accident: If you leave the window 2" open at the top, the shape of the mirrors deflects air straight in your face. Perfect for trackdays.

I'm sure someone in the UK sells the air ducts, can't quite remember who though, IIRC they are the same ducts for the 964 ?
