Turbo discs wanted

Has anyone got some 944 turbo front discs for sale either drilled or grooved (early type same size all round). I going to have a play with the brakes and pads but dont want to shell out on new discs if i decide to go down the big black route later on !!!

I've got a pair of Zimmerman drilled discs that you can try out if you want and if you like them you can have them for a good price. They've only got a couple of thousand miles on them so are barely worn and are not warped. I also have the EBC red ceramic pads I used with them as well but I wouldn't recommend them as I found them to be pretty naff with so little cold bite it was verging on dangerous. I would recommend you use other pads with them. Give me a shout if you are interested in giving them a whirl. In fact i've got some brand new Mintex pads you could try with them assuming Hilux doesn't want them as I offered them to him first.

Nice to know that there's so much variation inexperience of this brake combination.

I use EBC ceramic red pads and and drilled discs in both WUF and baby WUF with very good results. And would recommend them.

Scott, are your calipers working properly ?

Rick.

Rick, as far as i'm aware the calipers were OK. There was certainly no caliper plate lift as I could withdraw the pads from the calipers with no interference. I just put it down to one of those things. In anycase the Big Blacks with EBC Yellows has cured things nicely!

OK. I've got no connection with EBC.

Just to say that if I'd had a bad experience with one, I wouldn't have fitted to the other..

Having said that, we all learn from each others experiences - what make these forums work !

Certainly baby WUF works well on both track and road, but then all the calipers are refurbished, braided hoses and SRF fluid ... Better than they worked on WUF before thay were replaced.

Rick.

Initially I wasn't after EBC pads for my big blacks due to my experiences with my reds, however after speaking with Stuart at K300 Performance he recommended the yellows as he runs them. I relayed my experiences with the Red pads and he seemed to recognise the problems I was having with them and re-assured me that his experiences with yellows was the opposite. I saw Stuart at a Donington track day and tried to follow him for a couple of laps but only lasted about three corners before he was off, so I thought if they are good enough for him, they'll be good enough for me!! They certainly have plenty of cold bite, but I can't attribute 100% of that to the pads since i've changed the discs, calipers, hoses and fluid all at the same time so who knows which of those elements has contributed the most to the improvement in braking performance. Having said that the pads that were fitted previously (which were just standard pads) were fine so something definately changed when I fitted the EBC reds and Zimmermans.

I only have experience of Greens and they are junk. That said I got chatting to a Jaguar test driver at the 'Ring who had just done an 8:01 BTG with traffic in an E36M3 non-Evo with only coilovers. sticky tres and no interior as mods. He was over the moon his EBCs (not sure the type, but not Green) were worn out as he could now get "real pads". He was going to go with Pagid Endurance ones. I still swear by Performance Friction and I really don't think EBCs would compare to them.
