Turbo DME

I just did a search but nothing came up for some reason.

My question is, does the turbo use a different DME relay than the non turbo cars? The reason i ask is because i bought one as a spare to carry but when i compared it to the one on my car it was totally different. I thought id try it anyway and with the new one in place, the car wont start.

I did take some pics and il try and load them up if needed.

Thanks,
Stuart

Yes thats what i thought. But here is a pic of the two dme's. The old one is on the left. Its in the correct slot for the DME (G5) and has the corect amount of pins etc.

When i try the new one with the 993 part number the car simply wont start[&:]

Can you try the new one in another 944 at all?

Failing that, see if you can borrow another 'new part no. one' to try?

No i dont have access to another 944 unfortunatly. Is that old dme the correct part? Or has my car been modded in some odd way? Could it be part of the chip set it has fitted?

The dme relay is the same part across all models. Where did you get the new one from? It sounds to me like it is broken or they sent you the wrong part.

I haven't seen an original 944 numbered relay for some years but I am pretty sure they were physically the same size as the 993 numbered version, so the fact that your new one is physically bigger sets some bells ringing in my tiny mind.

Im pretty sure i got it from Type 911. Here is a pic of the part number on the top of it. Is that the correct part number?

And no, my thumb isnt amputated like it looks in the pic!! LOL

Does nobody know the correct part number for the updated DME?

Also i notice on the diagrams on the relays have the breakers in the oposit direction!! Also i remember reading that the old dme's have a 944 part number, my old one doesnt have this and has 4/94 on it. Is that a production date? I realy need to get to the bottom of this.

Oh and another thing, since removing relays trying to get to the bottom of this, my wipers now dont return to park!! When i turn the wipers off they simply stay in the position on the screen as soon as i turn them off if you know what i mean??

I used a Vauxhall one in my '86 Turbo as the AA man had one in his van - they aren't even Porsche specific.

I have just replaced my DME with the 993 one in my S2 and its working fine Part No. 993 615 227 00. Yes its slightly bigger than the original but apparently its a superior part. Looks exactly the same as yours in the pics...

Perhaps you have a faulty unit. I would send it back and ask for a replacement.
