Turbo engine idles but won't run

Hi everyone
I have a prolem with my 89 turbo engine. It will start but then dies again almost instantly. However after several starts and a light throtle it will idle. This has been getting worse for several months and the car was taken to Shirleys but, of course, the problem did not show whilst there. I now cannot drive the car to get it to the garage.
I have changed the throttle position sensor and the Mass Air Flow unit for second hand units from Douglas Valley but it has not made any difference.
My mobile mechanic thinks it looks like fuel starvation as if it were over fueling then it would emit smoke and run well at high revs. So assuming under fuelling what might cause it? If you think a particular component might be faulty then please say where it is located.

Alright John sorry to hear about you trivial fault , long shot , rust in the fuel lines blocking them or possible fault with the ECU , sometimes if there is a bad earth to the engine apparently it traces back and fry's the ECU management unit . Best of luck in finding the fault and when you do please share your findings best regards J
 
Any idea when the fuel filter was last changed? - it often gets overlooked in services & it's a bit of a pain to do on the drive (the fuel always seems to drip down the spanners & up your sleeve [:(] )
 
Speed sensor? You could test by swapping your speed sensor with your reference sensor (same part number).
