That's Essential Styling who had their exhaust designed by Janspeed a few years ago. Unless something has changed while I wasn't paying attention then that will be the same exhaust and it's fine. Lots of people on here have them. Another option is Hayward & Scott who used to be more proactive than they seem to be of late in the market, but whos system I have personaly experience of. Your '86 probably doesn't have a cat. I'd say it's not 100% certain but probably 95% safe assumption however. It doesn't matter though as there is still a join in the system at the same place. You won't get a lot of noise out of a Turbo without a custom system designed to be noisy, and if your car has no cat it will have a silencer instead so you quite possibly won't notice much difference at all with an off-the-shelf cat-back. My H&S was deeper sounding than standard but not a lot louder (but it was a full system). Having heard a noisy one I'd have to say it isn't a nice noise anyway, which you'd expect as it's just a fairly uninspiring 4 cylinder engine at the end of the day.

Like the look of it and seems reasonably priced, been wanting a new exhaust for my turbo as looking for a nicer note, extra HP I aint too bothered about, as long as it aint losing any fitting one. Also its says cat back, but am I right in assukiong my 86 Turbo wont have a cat. Would like Wortec one but cant justify the cost the now as starting on a new build house. What other options do I have, cant seem to find many choices for aftermarket 944 turbo exhaust about, cheers

I had one fitted to my S2 few years back , bought it from ESS if I recall correctly , Had the Oval type and it was great , love the engine note and I do believe the exhaust made the S2 go faster , If I recall correctly I only paid 4years ago around the £295 ish mark and things get cheaper , just checked on essentialstyling.co.uk and the same exhaust is slightly cheaper , well recommended manufactured by Jan Speed very top quality , best regards J

Just looking for a bit more of a sporty note, although I know these big capacity four pots never really serve up much of an aureal delight, but this sounds interesting. I wonder if I do have a silencer where the cat is on later models (will check the morrow) like suggested. What would be the consensus on replacing this with a straight through section, so would just have the back box to silence whole exhaust. Amybody heard this kinda setup, just how vocal might it be? Also what bore is this ESS exhaust 2.5" or 3"? Cheers all
You can definitely get rid of any cat / resonator / silencer in the middle. The majority of decat systems I have seen are straight through with only the back box as silencer and my H&S definitely was. All the silencing is in the back box - if the tailpipe corrodes and falls off even on a totally standard car it is very loud. I'm only guessing, but since it mates to the standard front section I don't think the ESS exhaust is bigger diameter than standard.

The ESS front section is larger diameter than standard - especially the section that is 'squashed' on a standard car. Not sure about the rear, however Janspeed initially started without a front box and then fitted one (of a straight through design) and found more power in back to back testing.
