Turbo losing it's GT1 engine?!

...btw, if true then I guess GT3 and GT2 will be next to follow...

EDIT: looks like this may not be the case. Just Turbo affected.

ADDITIONAL EDIT: ...and GT3 (GT3 RS and GT2 excluded)

On the face of it sounds like bad news but I don't doubt the marketing machine will make it sound very positive.

The change would seem a questionable one from an engineering standpoint given previous hype about why they used this design in the first place. Roll-on RMS problems as well I guess... At least the price of the engine should come down.[;)]

[:(] Like you, I don't think so....

I read the same thread in horror...
I also remember them saying that the GT lump had been taken as far as it could be... maybe some half truths and they are moving away from the GT1 and to a new flat 8 ? It was bounced around as a rumour for the launch of the 997...

If it does turn out to be true and the facelift does come with the new engine, Like alex I will feel a little safer in my old motor...[;)]

One potential silver lining is those of us with GT1 engines will probably get better resale as a result after the facelift is introduced.

...not that I would want to swap for a car with a little bit more power but a weaker engine (and pay for the privilege)!

I suspect a large proportion of Turbo purchases are not by enthusiasts aware of the different engine designs but those that aware may well consider this disappointing - I for one had factored this in as part-justification for the additional cost.

For those who are enthusiasts as such doesn't this add to the GT3 desirability which surprised many on 997 as a much more driveable every-day sort of vehicle? Maybe, with presumably spare capacity to build GT1 engines, GT3 production could be increased? Speculation on my part.

Correct me if wrong but is there also scope for the turbo therefore to make its way into a Boxter/Cayman if this change happens? Can't see it happening though.
